Fine. If you're going to be that way, you're off the harrassment list.

Tebow to Jets for a 4th round pick. I think that's bad for him.

Also, Saints just got smacked HARD for their bounty scandal. Head coach suspended for a year, GM suspended for half the season, lose two 2nd round picks, and at least half a million in fines.

Also, Greg Williams is suspended from the NFL indefinitely/forever.

ESPN's Adam Schefter is now reporting the Tebow to Jets trade may have hit a snag. Supposedly the language in the trade deal called for the Jets to pay $5 million. The Broncos are saying both parties agreed to it, the Jets are now saying they didn't agree to pay the money.

Basically it sounds like the Jets made the deal without reading the contract where it called for that money, and now they don't want to pay it.

Tebow can't even complete a trade.

Whoa. I echo the below remark.
Thanks for the timely updates, Borla.
Was about to look for confirmation, but then read your additional post. I'm going to just intuitively read most of these posts beginning with "reported as"...
Simple sidetrack: I was also thinking of re-booting this NFL discussion for the new year, but was pleased to note that you had already beat me to the finish. (Plus, irony is not lost on me, and it doesn't help that I'm a procrastinator/perfectionist, & currently still beneath the ground at this point. You rule, Borla.)

Back to me (and my absence):
My biggest regret from this past season 2011 {regular} / 2012 {playoffs} was not that I unwittingly weaned myself from my fantasy football hobby, (and subsequently lost in all of my leagues) but that I did not watch a single NFL game after week three.

I cannot allow that same fate to happen this time 'round.
It still boggles me, so I am searching for some sort of full season compendium on iTunes or on NFL.com.

Have the Rams issued a statement regarding and/or refuting this news as of yet?
I suppose either Williams himself or the various teams he held ties to in regards to his now-infamous confirmed "bounty policy" could push this into the appeals process, and maybe none moreso than St. Louis would have an interest in pursuing this, seeing as the very next day after New Orleans lost to San Francisco back in January, the Rams penned a deal with Williams to be their new head coach. Not only would there have been some guaranteed money possibly written into his contract, but all that money could be tied up in what could be termed as "poor-planning purgatory". I don't know that this turns out to be the case, but if what you reported holds to be, I'm interested in what happens to the Rams and their decision in courting another head coach, and if worse comes to worst, additionally seeking a new personnel director and general manager because of this massive botched-signing & scandal.

Jetée, it's been confirmed by the comissioner's office and by Godell himself. It's a done deal. The Rams have said that Williams' suspension is "warranted".

As I recall, coaches don't have an appeals process that works the same way that the players do. The coaches don't have a union and therefore don't have a greivance process.

My thought is that the Rams won't be required to pay Williams, or if they do, only pennies on the dollar. I'd expect that the morals clause will come into effect here. But otherwise they're screwed because they hired the wrong guy.

Ah, that does offer some enlightenment to the question I posed there.
Thanks for the prompt reply, the_jazz. (is this how you do that thing you did there? Fixed it.)

A long time back when, there was a season in which I was still actively rooting for the Redskins, and was beyond perplexed that Dan Snyder found a way to become even more disliked by not hiring then D-Co. Gregg Williams as the successor to Joe Gibbs, (run #2, '04-08) and instead, found a way to make a mockery of the head-coach hiring process for an entire summer season, and eventually ended up hiring Seahawks QBs' coach Jim Zorn, (perhaps a virtual unknown even in Washington state that he was on-staff) who once comically referred to the historic team he was joining as the proud 'maroon and black'.

The above tangent was to illustrate a point that when this news of Williams' bounty policy, when he was the defensive coordinator back in Washington he issued 'incentives' to his defensive-men for 'knocking a key player out of the game', and was purported to still be in effect when he transitioned to New Orleans; while it came in as any other 'shock and scandal' news story at the time it broke, I could only imagine one person who felt a measure of warm confirmation in hindsight when this came into the light, and that would be Dan Snyder. It might look at this point in history that he might be viewed as the only 'smart' owner of the three currently entangled with this Gregg Williams' controversy (Snyder-WSH,Benson-NO,Kroenke-STL).

came across this article that ties in while researching the above: New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton suspended for season by NFL - Sports News from The Arizona Republic

  12. Hosting the Super Bowl has been the kiss of death for the host city home team these past two years plus the next season

2010 - 2011 - Dallas - Romo went down and the Cowboys tanked after being an early season favorite to play the big game at home
    2011 - 2012 - Indianapolis - Colts tank after Manning's multiple neck surgeries
    2012 - 2013 - New Orleans - 'nuff said

How do you think tebow will do with the ny press?

I think he'll do fine in that he'll stay classy. Though I've never been a fan of his as a football player, and some of the religious stuff is mildly annoying (more from everyone else talking about it, not him particularly), I do think he really tries to be a good person. I've heard lots of commentators say that he is honestly as nice and positive in person as he is on camera. So I don't expect him to snap in a major way.

But I do kind of expect them to eventually handle him harshly, and probably look for any and every excuse to point out what he does wrong, or has done badly.

I honestly think going to the NYJ is pretty much a worst case scenario for him.
A divided team with all kinds of drama? Check.
A city with brutal and incessant media coverage? Check.
A volatile coach who loves talking to the press even when discretion would be a wiser choice? Check.
A team lacking a very strong QB, meaning Tebow will constantly be in the middle of QB controversy? Check.
A city where he'll get little to no credit for being a nice guy and a former SEC star? Check.

I think best case for him would've actually been NE. No one would argue he should start over Brady. Belichick is genius enough to have a great package of plays for Tebow to run in select situations. Belichick is also quiet enough to the media not to give them fodder to stir them up in regards to Tebow. He'd be given at least a couple years to learn at the feet of a master, from a very good coach, in a very solid organization, with very little pressure, so maybe he could succeed as a real QB some day.

I think him going to the Jets is going to cause both him and them a mess.

I don't understand paying him that much money to be a backup to Sanchez. My opnion is the wildcat formation is done with.

I don't know. The Wildcat got to the playoffs last year. Defenses are still trying to figure it out. I think if you get the right quarterback - read "smart enough and athletic enough" - you could put a lot of points on the board. I'm not prepared to answer the question of whether or not Tebow is the right quarterback or not. He might actually be, but I know that my personal opinion of him clouds my judgment, so I'll sit that part out.

I don't think Tebow is going to receive the same welcome in Jets county as he did in mile high. In fact I think it might the worst place for him. But if he get the chance to get in and starts winning the Jets faithful might start prayer circles in the stands. If he loses a few games I suspect live lions might be released on the field.

You make it sound like the saints don't have a chance at the Super Bowl. Season hasn't even started.

They are going to be missing their head coach for the whole season, GM for half the season, several key players for probably half the season and they have a brand new D coordinator and a disgruntled QB. Make the Super Bowl? I'd say they are going to struggle to make the playoffs.
