That place is on Yonge Street, just south of Queen. Not very close to the "official" Chinatown. More towards the business district. however, there are tons of Chinese places all over town.

Hi RangerJoe ... Wh .. Whahhhh ...... Wow.

I like the composition, I like the texture, I like the light and shadows. I like the choice of black and white. And I like what the light has done with those branches .... the shadows ... so neat on the paving and so ... crazy on the wall. Heck ... I might as well click 'like' as well! Thanks for thinking of this thread when you were out with your camera at that moment; and it was also great to have a look at some of your other images on Flickr :)

Thank you so much, Zen. As I'm just beginning in my photography journey, your comments mean a lot. :)

Hi, paddyjoe ... that is bloody weird and bloody great. Like ... nasty in the foreground and background. Looks likeReal Street, but creepy. thank you :)

RangerJoe ... please can you put more pics here? I'm truly holding myself back from simply going to your Flcr site and doing what I can to put them here myself. Fact of the matter is: you've got strong pictures and I'm just hosting a 'street photography' thread. I don't want to disrespect your 'ownership of content' by doing a 'look at this' off my own bat. I suppose I'm saying PLEASE put some more of your pics in this and some of the other photo threads. Heck, last week, I was going into an 'I'm not worthy' bow-down, when I saw one of your pics on your account ... it was a landscape. Yes ... and there was mist which kind of separated and brought together all the bits. It's emblazoned in my mind. Almost as much as that lawnmower wedding moment which did not quite happen! Can't remember if I mentioned ... it was a total honour to see those wedding pics in members' playground. All the best :)

I feel a little dumb because I can't figure out how to tag someone!

Zen, I post photographs every once in awhile. Some of my pictures can't come even close to being as good as others I see on here, so I guess I'm a little scared. :) Heck, I don't even process 3/4 of the images I photograph because I feel like they're just not good enough. I'll dig around and see if I can't find more images to place in this thread, another, or to start my own.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. :)

So I'll throw in two more that I DID process:

There were two men painting a mural by the canal in downtown Indianapolis a few weeks ago. We talked a bit with them and apparently there were actually three guys total that were working on it.

The shadows made the colors dull, but I love this shot. Here is one with the real colors:

    Hi RangerJoe

Bloody hell ... you've beaten me to it .... I was working on my reply and I see you've already got busy :)
Here's what I was going to say:

OK .. I'll go out on a limb and get specific ... here are just your first five pages in your Flcr account, and as far as I'm concerned, here are some examples of straight-up awesomess.

And this is the one which totally floored me ... the one I mentioned earlier ... I'll never forget this one.

This IS indeed a vote of confidence. I mean total confidence. And the graffiti pictures ... those are a magnificent study. Yeah, we often see the results, but here we've got the creators, too ... very elusive beasts.

NB, I'm seeing others in this thread knocking balls out of the park too. But here and now, I'll level, Ranger, I'm drunk ... I just got back from a party, and it's put me in mind of how much I appreciate various people that I've met. My eyes and thinking are clear, but I am less shy about saying 'Fk YEAH when I see good stuff. There's so much that I don't say, and there are times I hate myself for not saying it.

Tonight, I'm lucky to be in the state I need to be to simply say to you Good Job and please keep 'em coming. Is that young lad your son? He's got loads of personality, and obviously feels comfortable with the photographer!

I love that picture. Someone graffiti'ed on the bridge "U put the goat down." Why? No clue, but I like it.

Again, thanks Zen. :) I'm really trying to build myself up so that I can do photography full time. It's a slow process, but I like to believe that I have an eye for it, I just have to get the technical side down. :)

That IS my son and he absolutely hates getting his picture taken, so he acts like a goof the whole time. :)

And to all who have been building this thread into the gallery is becoming, either by taking pictures, or by dropping in to have a look :)

I was reading this thread and remembered a time in 2008 when I was sitting by myself at a patio bar waiting on my girlfriend.
I was playing with my camera shooting along the sidewalk towards the City Hall in Kingston, when a bride and groom came strolling down the street followed by a photographer.
The photographer was a guy I worked with at the camera store. I always wanted to see if he'd like my shots, but never did.

I think the shots of the bride and groom looked pretty good!

It's a shame your friend never got to see them. These are what I call 'Street portraits'. A moment sooner or later were the ones you did not take. These are so spot on ... beautiful couple :) eh .... your friend didn't get to see these ... but did the bride and groom? I mean, imo, at times like this, it's the 'perfect impromptus' which endure ... 'd be good in their album.

I still love the way you shoot, mm. That second to last shot makes clear a peculiar sensitivity - maybe it's from shooting your item girls for so long but it's soft and sweet with a touch of bizarre. Like you're channeling Arbus. I'd miss moments like these.

Thank you very much for the ultra flattering comments. You know Diane Arbus is my favorite photographer ever. She is the primary inspiration behind my ongoing preference for the square format. I am nowhere close to being the photographer that she was, but I do share her philosophy of photographing people. Trying to catch what is invisible when you're just looking.

Similar to my philosophy, and very evident both in your work and in your choices of that of others. I think I've mentioned elsewhere that I consider you to be one of my 'teachers of seeing'.
