    My husband came in while I was watching it.

    Him: "What are you watching?"
    Me: "..." (too wrapped up to notice him/his ignorance)
    Him: "OHH! Everyone loves the short guy. When does the new season start?"

    I laughed so hard. He hasn't read the books so he has no idea what's coming.

    I think that all the viewer/non-reader types are going to have their minds blown. They're going to expect more of the same, but what they're going to get is some hardcore schooling in epic fantasy, Martin-style.

    He is familiar with the tropes of epic fantasy--he's read far, far more of it than I ever have--but yeah, the way Martin goes about it is entirely different, from what I understand. Smuttier, too (this may or may not explain why I am a fan).

    That is totally awesome. It's funny how on the one hand the Simpsons are so completely irrelevant anymore, and on the other hand how they can occasionally still have a stroke of genius brilliance like that. I kind of wish the animation on the things "emerging" and "growing" had been a bit more elaborate, but I guess that's a fairly small complaint.

    It's a little weird to be saying "spring is coming!" when what we're actually talking about is FALL is coming, but I guess we shouldn't mince words too much. New season of Game of Thrones is awesome and I can't wait.

    Today I sat the Iron Throne at the GoT exhibit at the TIFF Lightbox downtown. My SO ordered Season 1 on Bluray. It should arrive by the end of the week.

    It was a good day.

    Hope it's OK to post if like me, you have not read the books. My son has read (and re-read some of) the series and for now he serves to fill me in on everything I ask about pertaining to the characters. I just don't wish to get on the 'book vs. series' argument bandwagon, instead prefer to enjoy the series for what it is.

    Series-only watching is totally fine. It's a great series that stands on its own. You will, however, gain an advantage from the books in terms of fleshing out the setting/lore/history, the characters' motivations/psychology, and sheer depth/brutality of the world that you simply cannot get across on the screen. (Not to mention a bunch of plot/subplot that needed to be cut.)

    Though I know reading epic fantasy isn't for everyone. I totally get that.
