    I, being an undergrad, was offered a research assistantship under the chair of graduate studies for my department. Apparently it's a big deal and not something one can turn down. That being said, the "honor" of the whole thing went out the window when confronted by the realities of an additional 20 hours of work per week. Makers Mark and Folgers; you're my only friends.

    As someone who works for a college of science and really pushing for funding for undergraduate researchers, DO THIS! Competition is rough out there. Just having a degree backed by good grades isn't going to cut it unless you know the RIGHT kind of people, can market yourself REALLY well or pure dumb luck. The richies are willing to fund undergraduate research to build a smart and experienced workforce.
