Since 2017, I have acquired nearly 100 board games and more than 180 expansions. The board game industry has exploded during this time, and there are now some incredible games out there.

Part of what has made the board game industry grow so much is that people now crave "analog" experiences in a digital world. This has been my experience.

That said, I would like to see this thread work as a general discussion for all things board games:
    • Do you want to get into the board gaming hobby, or are you already deep into it?
    • What are you playing?
    • What kind of games are you looking for?
    • What's on your wishlist?
    • etc.

I have the 2nd edition of Return to Dark Tower with all the expansions. I have been dying to play it again that I bought this kickstarter and it sits unopened in my living room.

Invites for anyone who want to come to Philadelphia to play. :)

    I have also enjoyed Abducktion.

I missed out on the original and so didn't feel any nostalgic pull to get the new version. But that's been one of the great things about the board game boom. A loftof new versions of older games have found a market, including HeroQuest and Fireball Island.

the nostalgic part stays back there honestly. I played the original ONCE with a kid from the neighborhood that I befriended just to play the game. He was such a dick at his home that I never wanted to go back there again.

But RTDT is a whole new game and it's playable by ONE or four.

I built my game collection mostly around the ability to play the games solo.

We like board games, but we need to reclaim one of the rooms in our house and keep it cat free.

I'm also convinced my wife's TV addiction is now incurable. On second thought she could replace it fairly easily with her second addiction, on-line puzzles.

My older sister soured me on playing board games when we were young by always taking charge, being both aggressively competitive and a sore loser, never letting me pick game pieces, never letting me be the banker in Monopoly or the Game of Life, and—worst of all—routinely accusing me of cheating whenever I rolled the dice… as in, every dice roll would be followed by a 30–60 second guilt trip from her before I could play my turn.

That said, my favorite board game was called By Jove, a Monopoly-style endeavor based off of Greek mythology. I don’t know if it’s still being produced or not.

    I know!

Lucky for her, she married another Board Game Person and they have raised two Board Game Daughters, and somehow they all love playing board games with each other!

I don't know if By Jove is still in print, but I keep hearing that Lords of Vegas is a good alternative to Monopoly. I think it's because it's more balanced, whereas Monopoly is contentious by design.
