What's crazy here is his sentence on the gun charge alone could be -- probably will be -- about what could've been worked out in a plea deal. I'm guessing the wrench in the gears was trying bundle it with the tax charges.

What might be the big issue here is: Does the House Oversight Committee have the right to see the docs & communications related to the original plea deal?

Is it just bad optics (I hate sanitizing terms like walked back, bad optics, etc), or should we be concerned?

Call me crazy, but I don't think Harris could defeat NPD Trump. Too many swing voters aren't ready for a black woman as POTUS.

 

I wasn't commenting on Biden's health, although people will of course claim his people are covering for him (they need to look at how NPD Trump starting sagging during his depositions).

 

That was nice of him to explain why Pres Joe might be thinking & acting a little slowly.

I don't the public in general expects Biden to be Super Prez. But yeah, the 24/7 news coverage doesn't help, esp the right-wing assmouths (plant the seeds and fertilize the plants).

So McCarthy moves forward with launching an impeachment inquiry without taking a vote in the House, after saying he would take a vote. While just about everyone not benefitting from the inquiry is saying this action would've take place many months ago if the Repubs had any real evidence of Prez Biden doing wrong.


Of course what nearly everyone knows: It's not about a conviction in the Senate, it's about influencing voters in the 2024 Pres Election.

Now the normally apolitical people who voted for Biden in 2020 need to do so again in 2024.

No, and yes. The US didn't actually control the $$$ directly; South Korea did withhold the money from Iran based on potential sanctions from the US.

After wading through many complicating factors, some actual and some potentially so, it looks as though the US did cave in to Iran...again.

The humanitarian aid requirement is a joke to me, at least partially. If Iran knows the money has to be spent on humanitarian aid, they'll just move money around so that there is no actual/real increase in such aid.

Is this a bad move by Biden, or is this a matter of having to choose the least crappy solution when there are no good solutions?

 

We've heard about Biden standing, literally, with the UAW workers on strike.

At one time, when labor unions were strong in the US, this move by a Dem POTUS would seem like the rational thing to do (although no previous POTUS has actually joined the picket line).

These days many people don't support unions. They're quite comfortable taking for granted the things unions had to fight for, and very literally die for.

Strikes are rarely viewed favorably by the general public. Especially when they drag on seemingly forever. People get tired of hearing about them, & get POD when the strikes inconvenience them, which is what strikes are usually meant to do.

Some background which partially explains my mixed thoughts towards the UAW, & unions in general:

Back in the early '80s I was surprised to learn UAW workers got paid $15.00 per hour for tightening the lugs on wheels. My union job in Houston paid me $12.00 per hour (misleading because $1.00 of that was for working 2nd or 3rd shift) for doing complicated machining on large and very expensive blowout preventers. Blowout preventers saved oil companies millions, possibly billions, of dollars over the years.

On that subject...
Our union contract with Cameron Iron Works expired as the Oil Bust in the early '80s was developing and it was clearly going to get worse. Our union president, Charles "Chuck" Bertanni (sp?), resigned two weeks before the contract expired. Shortly after the new contract was approved he was hired as a consultant by Cameron. How very convenient.

A good timeline & summary of the Repubs case against Pres Biden. This' interesting because the right wing news media mentions the various activities without mentioning the FBI, under NPD Trump, judged most them to be lacking evidence.

 

Excitement sells.

I find it odd that while the Repubs keep mentioning the millions of dollars that Hunter received for questionable reasons, they conveniently forget about Jared Kushner and Steven Mnuchin arranging sweetheart private deals while employeed as government public servants under NPD Trump.

The assmouths on our popular local right-wing "news" radio station were mentioning several million dollars was supposedly delivered directly to Joe Biden. That sounds really ludicrous. I'm going to see if I can find where this "news" is coming from.
