U.S. Women's National Team

I'm rooting the US Women's National Soccer Team to win an unprecedented third title.

Last night they seemed to mostly cruise after building 2-0 lead over Vietnam. I got the impression they could've been much more aggressive on offense, but basically used ball control. It worked, the Vietnam team had very few scoring opportunities on offense.

The refs also seemed to let them play pretty aggressively; lots of arm grabs, and elbows. And plenty of flops.

 

Yeah, it almost looked like an offensive drill. I was surprised they didn't put more in just in case they need goal differential.

 

The Vietnam team did a pretty good job of defending the scoring area around their goal, the US didn't get a lot short chances*. I'm guessing the US doesn't want to show their full game this early, they're saving it until they run into a team that gives them a serious fight.


* It's obvious I don't know the proper soccer lingo .

 

Tonight's game will answer a lot of questions ! Win and we have a good chance of going all the way. Lose and it will be tough to get into the finals.

They need to turn it up.

This game was nearly the opposite of the game against Vietnam, fast with constant action.

The next game is Tuesday at 2am CST. I might be reading about it .

One goal in two games. Four goals in three games.

If Portugal had been just a tad more patient the shot that hit the sidebar would've scored.

Having five to six days to prepare for your next opponent isn't helping. Is the team that bad, or is the coach failing to find the right mix of players?

Can the team gel so that the sum is greater than the parts?

What a disappointment. Earliest World Cup exit ever. Eleven clear scoring opportunities, zero points. A bad penalty kick.

We're going to lose several players. Hopefully the coach (knee jerk reaction?).

I hope to see the final between Spain & England. I'll root for the team with the longest dry spell, unless my England native wife watches, then I'll route for Spain .

I've only seen the edited highlights. It appeared that both teams had solid defenses, with England missing what should've(?) been two goals. I didn't see Spain having any easy shots, but it seemed Julie Ertz (England's goalie) played a great game.
