Judge Cannon Just Set an Incredible Trump Trial Date

    BAM!
    Speedy trial

Is the judge tired of seeing her name in the news???
Being rebuked by the appeals court?

Probably realizes that her career is more important than T's disloyal ass - that to him, she's a tool to be discarded like everyone else.
That the DOJ and Jack Smith have got him dead to rights.

Smith distinctly noted from the start that T "has a right to a speedy trial"...and frankly, this is likely his plan and push.
Looks like so far, the judge is going along with it.

    No more delays.
Get in, sit down, hold on...this is going to be a ride.

I'm already reading & hearing it's very possible/ almost guaranteed the Aug 14th date will be moved back.

One of the reasons (excuses) given is NPD Trump doesn't have his "trial legal team" assembled. I say TFB, he should've started that process months ago.

Date requested to be moved to December by Jack Smith…not T’s lawyers.

    1. It take the argument out of T’s sails
    2. Allows more charges to be added
    3. T can’t move for a mistrial as much

Put the hook out then reel in…classic fishing.

Now for the Jan 6th stuff
    Coming soon to theaters.

Mr. Smith is going to overlap it all, IMHO

    More fucking delays.
    Five fucking months?
Just what we don't fucking need.

Unless Smith is hoping NPD Trump croaks.

I sincerely hope, and am almost certain, there is NFW Aileen Trump-Cannon will be involved with the Jan 01 case.

A conviction in the Jan 01 will be needed...if we hope to actually see NPD Trump in prison.

It's nice to have judge who likes you, and owes you big time for giving them a Job For Life.

    https://www.salon.com/2023/06/23/mo...shell-hold-mar-a-lago-trial-in-solid-country/

It's already started. It only takes one juror -- either a plant, or someone acting independently -- who plans to acquit regardless of the evidence.

    Redundancy alert.
I would not be a bit surprised if the DOJ, and many politicians, would be relieved if NPD Trump walks.

Cut & pasted from another article, note the last sentence:

Longtime Harvard Law Prof. Laurence Tribe called the former president's defense "ludicrous."

"There are only 2 ways for Trump to avoid conviction in the MAL case," he predicted. "Get Judge Cannon to delay trial till a new president pardons him, or get a Florida juror pre-committed to acquit regardless of the facts and the law. His odds look good."

Cannon has already denied sealing off identities of 80+ witnesses for the secret doc case, so the media, T allies and everyone can wear away at them.
It will be a clusterfuck...and there will be intimidation, stories changing, grandstanding and so on...until the trial.

That's just bleeping great. I wonder how the witnesses feel about it?

Either the DOJ is willing to take a big risk with Aileen Trump-Cannon, or they're establishing an out for when Trump gets acquitted or walks with no punishment. "Blame the judge, we did our job."

There are way too many powerful people who want this to end as quietly as possible. They see three acceptable outcomes: Mistrial, acquittal, or a quilty verdict with no real punishment.

Another possibility, less likely because NPD Trump has NPD: He develops a disabilitating illness, can no longer endure the physical & mental demands of going to trials.

I've been sort of sarcastically waiting for him to show up in Moscow.

It seems like he should be legally fucked - but I can't imagine the chaos if he gets jail time .. Let alone Real Time.

Then let the states get some.

Trump aide set to appear before Florida judge for arraignment | CNN Politics

Walt Nauta arraignment delays could hurt Jack Smith’s plans for Donald Trump's trial

Woodward and Nauta should've faced harsh sanctions after requesting a second delay. But Aileen Trump-Cannon wouldn't dream of making the defendants and their attorneys get with the program.

Can Nauta afford good legal counsel, a competent attorney in Florida? Are there such attorneys willing to risk not getting paid?

If the GOP foots the legal bill (NPD Trump should but won't), will they want a puppet attorney who would actually be looking out for NPD Trump?

Nauta's main attorney, Stanley Woodward, is being paid by Save America, NPD Trump's PAC. Nauta needs a new attorney not controlled by NPD Trump.

We might not see this trial start until 2025...after the 2024 election and certification of out 47th POTUS.

    What kind of set-up?

A December trial date doesn't give them enough time to prepare?
Bullshit. What have they been doing the past three months (actually further back)?

NPD Trump's attorneys say a trial would interfere with him campaigning.
TFB! Your Average Joe wouldn't get additional time simply because he has something else going on and the trial would be an inconvenience.

Edit: They mention "no ongoing threat."
    That sounds like a threat.

I mean...a reasonable person who wanted to Serve as president would want to clear this up first...

My criminal trial could be inconvenient to my attempt to become the Head of the Executive Branch where I can attempt to dismiss or pardon....

    I'm suspicious...
This judge has shown herself previously to cater to the convenience of T...and her background has got some VERY conservative group connections.

There may be some maneuverings and manipulation to let T get all the time he wants.
By first, putting the date VERY soon...forcing Smith to ask for more time, December now.

Then T's lawyers jump in, asking for WAY more time...under the premise, "they" asked for more breathing room...why not us and do it even more.
Then the judge allows it...conveniently after the election. And either allowing T to claim political conflict...or if elected, leverage the Prez position again to submarine the case.

This has been a trend in the last some years, with GOP and conservative group allied people manipulating anything that they can do to get their way or for any convenience.
Sorry, it's just a pattern...and it's corrupting our whole dynamic and system.

Frankly, the Dems have been suckers for some time allowing all these shenanigans.
And Independent and other groups have been stuck seeing these ploys go thru without much to protest with.

I don't trust judge Cannon's sense of duty to fairness and getting justice done in expedient manner.

    Absolutely.

I don't refer to her as Aileen Trump-Cannon because I like seeing his name.

I don't know if such a book exists, but I'd like to read a summary of how NPD Trump managed to poison our judicial system. Across the board, not just the SCOTUS.

    Followup on the collusion concern...
“Very telling”: Experts say Trump filing to delay trial is a test of Judge Cannon’s “favoritism”

M.O. of Mr. T is delay, delay, delay...and if possible get it thrown out.

And as noted again in this article, judge Cannon has shown favoritism so many times previously, that she actually got overturned and rebuked by her own fellow conservative judge in appeal.
I worry that there is actual collusion, which seems to be a trend as shown by SCOTUS judges Thomas and Alito. Much less her other group connections and influences.

The thing that will help is that it is so obvious T did a crime and Jack Smith's case is so pervasive, that she won't have any other choice than to not delay.
Something completely impacting and egregious, that even she will lean to Smith's asks.
(AND she's tired of her face being in the news in negative headlines )

I don't think Aileen Trump-Cannon cares about how guilty NPD Trump is. On the very slim chance he's actually convicted -- there will be a plant on the jury to make certain he isn't -- she will let him walk.

The more I see this case 'progress,' the more I see collusion, but in much larger picture. Everybody, with the possible exception Jack Smith*, will gladly let this case delay indefinitely in the hopes that by the time nothing actually happens to NPD Trump very few people will care and even fewer will be outraged.

    * Jack Smith might not be in on this, or he might be. He seems intense, and his record is impressive, but he could know putting on a great show of effort is just that, a show. Especially under the right circumstances.

His lack of effort to remove Aileen Trump-Cannon was, and still is a concern. Suppose Smith has some strategy to wait for her to do something outrageously pro-Trump before requesting her removal. That might look great in the news, but that would also (further) delay the trial. To go back to the question, is Smith knowingly participating in the delay game?

    *******
Some people might want to look forward the Jan 06 insurrection case, & the Georgia voting interference case, but those cases (I'm avoiding the the word trial) would be much tougher than the documents trial.
    *******

The time line is a factor. The Georgia case could be three years, or more, from now. NPD Trump isn't getting any younger. His massive ego might tell him not to fake being cognitively incompetent to stand trial, but if someone somehow managed to get him to realize he could actually spend time in prison, he might decide being 'less strong' isn't that bad.

What completely sucks is how NPD Trump is being gently treated because he's an XPOTUS, has the backing of the GOP, & can threaten violence using his braindead minions.

Actually Smith's team is battling it hard...
Special counsel blasts Trump’s bid to delay documents trial until 2024 election

They're going to fight it tooth & nail.
And if judge Cannon does a questionable play, they'll likely appeal it.

I don't believe Smith had any choice in the matter of the judge or battling it.
Several sources said that she was chosen random and the other judges weren't available or were overly committed.
The location for the trail doesn't help matters, they're limited.
