Here's what Joe Biden can -- and can't -- do to fight inflation | CNN Politics

This article ^ dates back to Jan 2022. I find it
useful because ten months later inflation is still a major problem.

I've previously stated there is strong connection between inflation and businesses trying to recover from the Covid economic slump. Clearly that is not the only reason for inflation.

We have a rock and a hard place situation. Biden could do more to curb inflation, but then the Repubs would label him a socialist who interferes with business.

I'm hoping the midterm elections are an indicator that voters are willing to be patient. But it's also up to Biden to show that trust isn't misplaced.

    Damned if you do.
    Damned if you don't.

Opinion: The most underestimated president in recent history | CNN

    Actually, he's doing pretty well.
Cleaning up the neighborhood after a frat house toga party.

Still got that crazy MoFo down the street that's setting off fireworks and has serious roadrage smashing others' cars. (Putin)
And that other SOB that steals (China) and released a plague.

    What else???
Mr. T and the MAGAs and other underlying festering extremism.

I think America has a bad habit of unrealistic expectations.

Give Joe a chance, he just got in.
    People forget this.
He just got his people in place
And they're just ramping up, learning the ropes and gaining moment.

    This shit ain't magic.
    Takes work, time and attention.
AND if you want it done right...investigation, thought, judgement and planning.

People are deluding themselves if they think this is Hollywood.

At least Joe is very experienced...not flashy.
And he cares...not just about himself. (like you know who... )

Fuckin' nice for a change to have an adult in the room.
    Just give him a break.

Generally speaking...people (voters) are fickle, impatient, greedy, & feel entitled to instant gratification.

I firmly believe we could formulate a twenty year plan, under which EVERYBODY makes some relatively EQUAL sacrifices, to get the USA mostly back on track. This would require bipartisan cooperation, and a commitment to see it through...which will never happen.

I would settle for seeing a Democratic or Progressive platform for the vision they have for the next 20 years. And not just easy talking points like "100% clean energy" or "Ban fossil fuel cars". Like how would that even work, let alone stop the rest of the world from using the cheaper gas/oil.

It has been 30 years since the GOP created the "Contract With America" and a few others since then, but the activist groups on the left, the public, and the politicians can't seem to work together to create this type of document that makes it easy on new candidates. They don't have to create a complete policy platform, instead they can just point at the already made and agreed upon one.

RayGun told everyone to tighten their belts; he neglected to mention which belts were going to be considerably looser than others. And he got reelected. And he's a Gawd to many Republicans.

US moves to shield Saudi crown prince in journalist killing

This mostly amounts to impotent rhetoric because the Biden Admin has no real, or imagined, power in Saudia Arabia.

But this position reveals Joe's willing to bend over in exchange for cheap oil.

Biden has claimed a hands off role in how the DOJ, Jan 06 Committee, etc have pursued NPD Trump. We know that's not entirely true, some actions are being taken by silent consent proxy.

His support of Prince Mohammed screams hypocrisy.

^ Here's an article that goes into much more detail about how the "Biden Administration" can influence what happens to Mohammed bin Salman.

Sorry, Joe, in my grade book you have two big Fs.

    1. The withdrawal from Afghanistan. Many things were beyond your control, BUT you could've handled what was under your control much, much better. AND admitted your mistakes.

    2. Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Do you really have to suck his **** this openly? Not exactly openly...it must be nice to hide behind the U.S. Department of Justice lawyers.

Biden's Holiday Express Delivers for 21st Century Robber Barons at Rail Workers' Expense - Insider NJ

    FTR/FWIW
I used to belong to a labor union. I could discuss the positives & negatives, but that would require a separate thread.

I sympathize with the Railroad Workers (RRW). I know striking when you're in a prime position to get what you want in a very good strategy.

In this case the US is struggling to recover from Covid (while fighting new variants, & anti-vaccine mentalities), & get the resulting inflation under control. A RRW strike would cause way too much damage.

Of course the Railroad Companies (RRC) are taking advantage of this. My understanding is the Sick Leave expense would be (very) minor, and it is part of the benefits given to management.

Telling the RRW "We'll make it up to you later" probably sounds like an empty promise, or too little too late. Once the US returns to relative normalcy, there's nothing to stop the RRC from "suddenly" deciding they can now get by with a smaller work force.

    Yet another...
    Damned if you do,
    damned if you don't.

There IS a balance...everything is situational. That's REAL governing. Not positions and agendas.

BTW, start a new thread on unions, that's a good topic. :)

Exclusive: US intelligence materials related to Ukraine, Iran and UK found in Biden's private office, source tells CNN | CNN Politics

The House is already jumping on this, making demands for a long list of documents & records.

This' a good thing, an action that should be taken regardless of party affiliations.

The big question is how are the Republicans going to handle it? Making noise to play to the media and embarrass Biden is expected. Will we see action taken that far exceeds the seriousness of the offense/potential crime?

Biden stubbornly dug in against criticism that he blew the withdrawal from Afghanistan (a very stupid position to take, IMO). So far he is saying the right things re the documents, but that doesn’t mean he & the people in charge of the documents at the time should be off the hook. The question is what should the punishment be?

If there is long, or recent, history of top officials mishandling classified documents, the problem goes deeper than Biden, or even NPD Trump (keeping in mind the two situations really are quite different*). A history of "loose handling" could partially/very slightly excuse Biden...and Trump to a lesser extent.

I'm sure the number of documents deemed classified is mind-boggling, but NARA needs to do a better keeping track of them. Which is not to say the people mishandling them aren't at fault, which includes Biden & Trump.

If Biden fucked up on this then he should be smacked around end of subject.
However, he didn't load up boxes and take them while he was leaving office to leave them in a an unlocked area to seemingly sell to the highest bidder.
    45 is way worse.

I think Biden did FU, even if he was unaware of the documents. That claim, if made, even if a true, isn't good excuse for having classified documents. In some ways it's worse than knowing. If you don't know you have classified files in the collection you'll probably handle the collection as mundane. If you do know, you handle them appropriately.

NPD Trump admitted that he knew, although he couldn't provide a complete list, and clearly did not handle & store the files with proper safeguards.

Give Biden the smacks he deserves.
Give NPD Trump the kicks he deserves.

President Joe, you earned another F grade.

Biden breaks silence on his handling of classified documents: 'I have no regrets'

"No regrets." That is an incredibly stupid thing to say.

Your stubborn refusal to admit to the mishandling, perhaps the gravity would be more accurate, is a stupid position to take. Much like the position you stubbornly clung to regarding the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Reading a prepared statement while keeping your head down makes you look like you're hiding.

Man up, President Joe. It's time to to say, make that admit, "I made some serious mistakes." If your nature is to dig in & fight, this isn't the time; stop repeating the Afghanistan denial mistake.

It's the nature of most politicians to say, "Who me?", then rationalize, then double-down and dig-in.
Mistakes aren't made in their book.

Sooner or later, they figure it out...but it's first a lot of squirming and tapdancing.

^ True. At the level of POTUS that can lead to big problems.

I'm starting to think President Joe's nature is to be stubborn to a fault. And I'm not the only voter reading his comments & behavior this way.
