What Americans are saying about the Jan. 6 hearings — CNN Politics

It amazes me the level of ignorance, neglect and skewed perspective the public has.

This is the reason that the founders made this a representative republic…not a full democracy.

    1. The normal person doesn’t have the time to pay attention to all the details and figure out the consequences of our government and its impact.

    2. Many are just oblivious or misunderstand.

The leaders up there…most do “get it”.
It’s just they may have an agenda to oppose or muddy waters.

I’m always shock at the level of not being aware of the issues and topics.
Many, it’s simply bread & butter concerns or they’ve been listening to the skewed source
Or they’re just plain bored and can’t be bothered.

A shame we have to base our voting on this.

Guess gotta try to keep making people aware.
    It’s a Sisyphean effort.

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will:
    * Enhance Background Checks for Buyers Under 21
    * Support State Red Flag Laws
    * Disarm Domestic Abusers (close 'boyfriend' loophole)
    * Crack Down on Gun Trafficking
    * Fund Community Violence Intervention
    * Invest in Mental Health Services
    * Provide School Safety Funding

What is the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act?

The vote in the Senate was 65 to 33 with 15 Republicans joining all Democrats.

This is a small step in the right direction after nearly 30 years of Republican obstructionism.

It is not a great bill w/o raising the age to 21 to purchase semi- automatic rifles and banning or limiting high capacity feeding devices or even the widely popular universal background check, but the best one could hope for in the current environment.

More: Senate passes most significant gun control legislation in decades

The House could vote on it tomorrow or early next week and it will pass with some (10-15) House Republicans.

This was the scariest moment in Arizona's GOP governor's debate. Be warned, America

    Crazy
    Insanity
    Pure lunacy
    That is what is happening.

And yet...the voters are still voting for them.

    WTF is happening???

Is it some type of mental imbalance caused by the pandemic, internet, fiscal crisis, war and everything...piling up in people's head???
Is it the Future Shock that was predicted from people being overwhelm by choices. too many options, too much to keep track and society pace increases and total flux dynamics???

All I know is someone let the crazy escape.
But "normal" joes (and janes) are saying...Ok, that's fine...they look like capable people...let's vote FOR them!!!

Or is this a typical cycle of chaos and stupidity?
There's a reason nations and empires fall.

I just never thought I would see the makings of it.
I thought we were civilized.

I guess the barbarians are at the gate.
And a good portion of the populous are saying...let them in, what could happen? "They're all the same..."

It is the media, famous talking heads, and online comments that are forcing people to take sides regardless of how competent the politicians are.

It would be nice to have a way to quickly determine if these people truly believe the 2020 presidential election was rigged, or are they just going along with The Big Lie because it benefits them.

We need the competent politicians, specifically Republicans, to stand up to The Big Lie.

I would write a very clear statement that could not be misunderstood or manipulated:
Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election fair and square. Joe Biden won the the 2020 presidential election fair and square. The election has been investigated many times, by many dedicated Republicans, and absolutely no evidence of massive election fraud was found. The 2020 election was clean, Donald Trump lost, Joe Biden won.

But you aren't a famous person with a known agenda that people support. ;) A lot of this is too much information and takes too much time to really follow and understand, if even the information you get is accurate a lot of times. So people trust that the rich or famous person will be able to hire people or think tanks to do actual research and have a better understanding of how this issue will impact the entire agenda and other issues that might matter more to me.

Who could have ever imagined that, in 2022, the US Congress would be voting on legislation that would codify into federal law the right to buy, sell, possess contraceptives.

Tomorrow, the House is expected to vote on the "Protecting Access to Contraception Act" that would prohibit state and local governments from restricting the sale, purchase or possession of contraceptives.

Jayapal, Thompson Introduce Bill to Codify Right to Contraception

Why such a bill in 2022, more than 50 years after the Supreme Court decision in Griswold v Connecticut that declared it was unconstitutional for states to restrict access to contraception?

The threat, perceived or real, to individual rights and protections has become so great as a result of the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade and the extremist conservative arguments raised by Thomas and Alito in the majority written opinions, that such legislation has become necessary.

    Speaking of preventative codifying efforts...
A bill to prevent Trump’s attempted coup is finally ready — and must pass

They're finally getting to passing a law to prevent election manipulation (or at least more)
And it's bipartisan too (even with the notorious Joe Manchin sponsoring it)
It helps that the Senate is starting it...because these days, it's been the spoiler for much coming from the House.
So makes it more likely that it will get to Biden's desk.

All we need is someone more intelligent and competent than T was. (like a real life House of Cards prez)

And they're noticing that the states are getting messed up too. (manipulating things, posturing)
This will help keep them from muddying the election.

    We need clarity. and confirmation.
Where the citizens decide...not the parties or politicians.
We vote, they vacate (if losing)

    Alex Jones today.

I can't imagine enough damages to lay on this POS.
Maybe if he went to prison for life and was harassed and bullied prison style for the remainder of his life.
But I think he's smart enough to rebuild no matter what the court decides.

As I understand it the plaintiff's attorney has text messages showing Jones knew that he was lying.

    Damages yet to be determined.

Yeah..so how do you assess the damages ?.
Jones, Bannon, Rodger Stone etc have all made careers out of whipping up the fears and delusions, creating these delusions out of whole cloth, creating many of our modern problems of freaked out ppl with guns who go off and do the school shootings and other random mass shooting events, then turn it all upside down into conspiracy.
Creating false narratives bringing out the most perverse behavior in people, with threats and actual violence agents those who have already lost the most precious thing in their lives, loved ones and children...
And profiting on it all along the way.
They're all P.T. Barnum's not doing a night of circus show and curiosity but creating an army of murderous gun toting loonys.
What AJ and his ilk has done is a serious danger to society and all of them need to be jailed at minimum.
All of them are too smart and just flat out evil not to get right back to it even if they're made truly bankrupt. They'll just do it all again.

Exclusive: Jan. 6 Committee Prepares to Subpoena Alex Jones' Texts, Emails

The Jan 6th committee already subpoenaed the phone companies for the phone logs, but it will be interesting to see what they come up with over the next few weeks from Jones's text messages...

I also wonder how much of an "accident" this was on the lawyers part. This might be one of those things where you sacrifice your career for the greater good of the country.

I agree. Dosn't look great to rat on your client but ratting out AJ would make you a hero in pure moral terms.

4M in actual damages. Punitive damages, usually the the most painful, haven't yet been announced.

Alex Jones and his ilk are scum, they tear apart the country with bullshit prtectected by the 1st Admendment. But at least in this case the jury saw where Jones crossed the line from ridiculously absurd opinion to clearly & intentionally lying.

There are reports Jones was moving money around in anticipation of losing.

They scream about too much big government, but sure do love the Chapter 11 Bancruptcy that lets them protect their personal property & money.
