    Negative.

They have to have a Jason Statham-styled hand-to-hand throwdown in some random setting that involves using every nearby item as a one-hit-'n-drop weapon. You're only allowed to take off your $1k jacket if it involves dropping some type of smug line about how you just had it pressed.

    You women wouldn't understand.

I know I'm a bit late to the conversation, but I'm going to add my opinion. I love girls in suits, or otherwise in nice clothing. Dressed up girls turn me on.

I think it's in part due to my personal daily style being 2/3 of a piece suite. I prefer to leave the jacket behind and only wear the pants and vest. I normally wear a tie, but often it's a skinny tie or cloth skinny tie or even bow-tie. And I love wearing a feldora or driver's cap to add some additional classic flare. 1930s/40s style? Yes, please! I love "dressing to the 9's" but often with the dapper twist. I not only get greater respect/taken seriously when on the job and while on business travel, but I turn heads when out and about from the unique dapper aspects. Plus with my style twists, I can still stand out when at a conference and surrounded by a bunch of other men in suits. Plus it helps me limit my wardrobe budget. I need nice cloths for work. I need nicer cloths for some business travel and other nice events. I like dapper cloths sometimes when swing dancing. Suit pants fit better than standard dress pants and fit the bill for all of the above. If I need to dress them down, wear only the pants, take off the tie and vest, and wear really nice tennis shoes. If I need to dress up more than normal, I'll add a suit jacket.

Weekends though vary based on what I'm doing. If I'm not doing much, I like nice jeans and either a button down shirt or nice sweater, or sometimes just t-shirt. And if I can get away with it, sometimes just my birthday suite... ;)

I've a thing for the black blazer, black slacks, black button-up, black tie combo-- maybe throw in some red or silver cuff-links or a pair of decent-gauged earrings. Even more preferable is if there are hints of tattoos sneaking out the ends of the sleeves. Total hotness.

Scarves are good. Blazers, yes. Dark jeans. Pin-stripes in moderation. Suits are iffy-- if you're stuck in a suit instead of able to do business casual, that can mean two things and one of them isn't quite, you know, good.

For casual footwear, Doc Martens, never sneakers. Sneakers should be reserved for the gym.

I also have a thing for undershirts. If a guy takes off his button-up and there's a clean, high quality undershirt below it... mrrow.

I've never done a tie knot. Hubby does it himself, I don't know by what name... Someone mentioned Half Windsor and I think I've heard about Half Nelson, but then I realized it's a wrestling move...

Windsor and Half Windsor are the medium and large symmetrical triangular knots, they're pretty much THE tie knot most people think of. There's an asymmetrical and much smaller triangular knot called the three (or its larger brother Four) in a hand which is also fairly common. There's a lot more knots but those are really the big two sets.

As a reformed terrible-hat-wearer who spent years in denial, I urge you to never wear a fedora in public ever again unless you're on your way to a costume party.

Just had flashbacks to the girls wearing the coveralls half mast in the main spaces. They made all of us stop wearing them that way because the females could not. Something about a hot environment, sweat, and the "assets" that tend to be more prominent then.

I almost always wear a fedora. Great combination of a nice look that goes with nearly anything and has versatile functionality of keeping the rain/snow/etc off of your glasses and face in general.
One item I despise wearing is a baseball style cap. I tolerated it in the military as part of those awful dungarees, but never have cared for it very much and even less now.

    Fully agreed.

I've been wanting to find a Fedora that suits me in color theme and style. Once I find one, I'll be rocking it together with my suit, a very nice black/grey long coat and black leather gloves on the cold streets of Germany.

EDIT: Maybe even in some of the Asian countries I'll end up frequenting in the future. Would love their looks.

Dark grey, lightly brushed wool with a bit of a dip.

    Yeah, sexy.

See meltedmetalglob. No matter the photoshopped venue, he's dressed to kill in his fedora.

I've got a small plain black trilby that I wear fairly regularly down here weather permitting. When I first got it I wasn't expecting it to go over as well as it did. What's hilarious though is that after shoving it in my luggage for a trip to Finland and back, and it getting generally worn and a bit sullied, I now get complimented on it constantly. My guess is since I'm right near both Full Sail and UCF, thus placing me directly in the fauxhemian capitol of central florida, the sheer novelty of a plain black hat throws people.

Now I just need to master tying bowties.

Maybe fedoras have just been overdone in my neck of the woods then, because they came and went fast. In my opinion though, if you really want to look like a Gatsby, you have to wear yourself better than you wear your clothes. Hell, you don't even need to dress too sharp if the situation doesn't call for it. I've found that some of the warmest responses I get are when I'm wearing my worn out jeans and a cleanish t-shirt but still behave myself intelligently and politely.

I'm not discounting the power of a good set of slacks and a polo though, or a 2 or even 3 piece suit. I love dressing up as often as I can get away with it, but all the Armani, Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren in the world can't save shitty composure.

EDIT: That most dastardly of contraptions known as the "bowtie" is still on my "to master" list.

A part of me wishes it was still normal (expected, even) to wear a three-piece suit and a pocket watch in public.

Yes, the pocket watch is important. Every man needs a good quality timepiece.

hear hear! I'd sooner wear a monacle or five than a pocketwatch though. Get me too dressed up and I'll start going steampunk. I can't help it.

Damn, looks like I'll never get laid again if I find myself single.

Working for IBM, I wore dark business suits for 20+ years. I now own a single suit, that is relegated to weddings, funerals, and potentially, interviews. There isn't a chance in hell I'm wearing it voluntarily.

    My typical attire these days.
Jacket by Spyder, fleece by Marmot, ski pants by North Face, custom backpack, boutique skis, with slobber and hairballs from Molly.

Comfortable, functional, and considerably more expensive than an average suit. Good thing my wife tolerates slobs.
