I work in the arts, so you can probably guess i'm on a perpetual fucking diet.....

Well to be a bit more specific, I am an Alkylation plant operator. The plant takes propylene, butylene, and pentene, combines them using a sulfuric acid catalyst and makes what we refer to as Alkylate as a product. This is primarily iso-octane which is used to improve the quality of gasoline and av-gas.

 

Welding Engineer, primarily for the construction of new nuclear power plants, but have had my fair share of super and ultra-supercritical boilers as well. The politics, bureaucracy, and general ridiculousness of nuclear construction is absolutely f*cking mind boggling, so I really miss working in a much faster paced, logic-based fossil industry. There's something unsettling about writing a procedure or specification that contradicts all common sense and efficiency, just for the sake of complying with a 23 year old document.

 

Industrial Electrician.... part time self-employed. I work in the oh so terrible oil sands of the great white north of Alberta. And I work in town doing side jobs and trying to get my own business going.

 

I've worked as a labourer in a cotton mill, a financial analyst, high-line construction in the electricity industry, financial counselling, computer modelling and forecasting, electricity market settlement, and treasurer/CFO of a heavy-equipment company. I'm an accountant by training, but as you can see, I'm hopelessly confused. My next gig will either be as a fireman or a jet-fighter pilot.

Right now, I'm doing a little bit of pet sitting to help out, but I'm currently in a full-time non-paying position to get hours towards completion of my PhD. It feels crappy not contributing to the household income.

 

I am an environmental scientist at a consulting engineers firm. I conduct environmental impact assessments, ecological and human health risk assessments, and biological field work.
