Samsung parts are apparently impossible to obtain second hand / from junk shops around here. Parts from the manufacturer are as expensive as a new machine. So when they break, they're broken for good.

And everything in the general class of machine that we prefer is out of stock everywhere without a reasonable eta.

Thankfully we got our fridge running again but our dishwasher may be out of the picture for a while yet.

We had a fridge where a simple plastic part cost roughly one fifth of what the fridge cost new. Fortunately I was able to repair the crack that was causing the shelf in the door to fall using a few strips of Gorilla brand duct tape.

We chose a high-end KitchenAid dishwasher.
It's going to be easy to find replacement parts. Samsung is not going to get our business again.

Unfortunately the KitchenAid dishwasher was making a loud high pitched squeal last night when we ran it for the first time. No one but me could hear it, but I also hear dog whistles so it was probably in that range. Maybe I will get used to it.

Hopefully it's just a part that will "wear in" and stop squealing.

I used to have problems finding aftermarket Mazda and Volkswagen parts because both companies protected their market and charged a premium for OEM parts. Oh, also Echo. TBF, that was quite a few years back, they might be more open now.

Having hearing that sensitive must be a blessing and a curse.

ive always had great luck with anything GE.

out dishwasher took a shit about 3 months ago and it was a GE and we had had it for about 13 years. but the reason it quit was not the appliances fault, It was the water line going to it that failed and soaked the mother board to it causing it to quit.

side note, my wife said not to worry about it. So we pretty much use paper plates etc.... she said she would rather put the money in the savings account and use it for a vacation next year. It was her choice so it dont matter to me. we all pretty much wash whatever dishes that we personally use for the most part.

That sort of sounds like what happened with our barely out of warranty Maytag washing machine. The gears would not have corroded and froze up if the seal(s) had not leaked.

We only cook for two. When our 20+ year old Maytag quits, or the inside racks finish rusting out, we could easily just handwash. But I don't see my wife going without a DW, even though she's the one who says we should handwash (????).

    Still happens.
It cleans dishes. My husband loads it up, kids unload it. Reduces my workload. It's better when we run it during the day when I am out.
