I was thinking about facial hair earlier and how much I do like it. I actually prefer it to clean shaven, but like it best when it's well maintained. From the photo, it looks like it's maintained, but by his description of looking like a hobo from the neck up, I dunno.

The scruffy 1-2 day growth is loverly.

I have a terrible tendency to drink way too many cappuccinos/latté macchiatos during meetings/conferences.

And I drink 3-4 liters of water a day.

I understand you've become used to pills what with all the girlfriend + bedroom + impotence combo going on, but I'm not ready to take them.

Yet.

 

Suits are nice on a guy. However, I think they look better without the tie. It's even better if the shirt is open a little bit. However, I'd choose a man in uniform over a man in a suit anyday. Something about a uniform is totally hot.

I believe you, that will get you laid. The crap they made us Navy guys wear (same cartoon shit the little man on a Crackerjacks box wears) will only get you laid in the Philippines, Thailand or Hong Kong. And only then if you happen to have 5 bucks with you. Then they love you long time.

Yeah, the US Army dress uniform is great... chicks dig it... it's the only way to make that stupid French hat manly... except it changes every five years and features more gadgets, doodads and widgets than a grown man can handle. That picture is from sometime halfway through my short-short military adventure. By the time I was getting out I had twice as many gizmos and thingamabobs to pin on using a tiny AR 670-1 ruler. Hellish.

That and don't ever try to do anything except salute in a Class A jacket. It leads to "fag frag" (rainbow-colored silk shit goes everywhere) and at like $5 a piece, it's an expensive mistake. Promotion boards were an exercise in not breathing too hard. Enlisted balls were like an awkward treasure hunt.

 

Well to be honest I think the Marines dress blues is far above anything the other services have. But the Navy dress whites and to a lesser degree the dress blues are special ed. material and by far the worst uniform in the US military. Wearing them make your dick craw up inside you and hide. It takes large amounts of liquor to encourage it's return.

 

A well-tailored, well fitting suit (with shirt and tie) is NOT uncomfortable. They are easy to wear 8 hours a day. The pain is usually in getting into them, which does take longer than jeans and a polo shirt. They also require a little bit of planning to make sure they work, but they should be comfortable, or you shouldn't be wearing or buying it.

 

Huh. This (including jacket) with either jeans or khakis is what I wear pretty much daily. Sometimes a polo in place of the button-up.

No way should a guy with your body type wear a three-button. Two-button, side-vented for normal suit-wearing occasions and you would look damn good in a one-button in midnight blue for special evenings.

It works with a huge collar, but I much prefer the Pratt.

 

Whaddaya know? All these years there's been a name for that knot I've been using. The Pratt. Cool.

Anything larger than a half-windsor just looks ridiculous on me.

If they fit you, and you are comfortable wearing them, then do so. Like midsized notched lapels and black leather oxfords some things are simply above the whims and vagaries of the fashion world. A confident and fit man in a well fitted 3 piece suit can command a degree of respect that borders on a jedi mind trick.

Letting someone convince you that a waistcoat is not "in vogue" is like letting them convince you that a black tie is out of style.
