I am predisposed I think to see unusual things as spooky.. but what do you think of this?

I really do not know enough about electrics/wiring to know if this is perfectly normal, or odd.

The other day I turned off my TV at the wall. The plug in the wall runs into a 4 way adaptor (ie - 4 power points from the socket in the wall).

After I turned the power off the TV continued to run.

"Thats odd" I thought. I checked around that I had definitely turned off the right socket. I pulled the plug right out of the wall (so the 4 way adaptor was still connected to the TV but the adaoptor wasnt in the socket).

    The TV was still running.

After about 90 seconds the TV turned off.

is that weird or normal? Can a TV or a 4 way adaptor hold a charge for a short time even when not connected to the mains? I am pretty sure that in 33 years of life I havent seen this before...

That is not so much odd, more like simply rare, I think it has something to do with residual current left in the device.

    Capacitors.

They can take a devilishly long time to discharge fully and since you 'pulled the plug' rather than telling the tv to turn itself off it will run until the power stored in the tv runs out.

Naw, it's a poltergeist. You need to exorcise your TV. ( or capacitors, one or the other )

    Never understood the ghost explanation.

Look! An event I can't explain, hence let me explain it [ghosts!].

I don't recommend experimenting with this but I'm curious how long it would have "run" if you had pulled the plug from the 4-way adaptor instead of unplugging the adaptor. It's possible that the tv was also running on charges from the other devices connected to the 4-way adaptor.

Haven't you watched Eddie Murphy? White folk don't leave when a house is haunted. They hang around for all the fun ghosty stuff.

And here I thought this thread would be like "Electric? ... ELECTRIC BOOGALOO!"

Well, I didnt mean to give the impression that I automatically thought that it was "supernatural" but it did strike me as weird. I have pulled the plug out of electrical devices many times in my life, and about 1/2 second is the longest something has stayed on. In this case it was about 90 seconds.

I also dont know enough about electrics to know how likely that it can happen naturally, just that I have never seen it before.

I have only had one experience in my life to which there is absolutely no rational explanation which I can see.

But Maybe a dozen times something has seemed strange or spooky but could have been something else, or a trick, or whatever else (like the incident with the screaming which I posted on here before)

I'm no expert by any means, but given the MUCH lower power consumption of modern tv's compared to older CRT models, and the very stern warning not to mess around with CRT model innards because of the residual charges held in the capacitors in them, I certainly believe it could have been something like that continuing to discharge after powering off. Which would suggest to me that there may be a problem with the tv. How serious or dangerous is well beyond my knowledge, but I really distrust things that don't work the way I think they should (includes most manufactured items more complicated than a ball-point pen).

Has it happened since? And have you asked an electronics technician how this might have happened and if it should be a source of concern?

Was your Tesla coil running at the time? Does the power cord for the tv run next to any neon signs or other large transformers?

He didn't power off - he 'pulled the plug'. The TV is probably fine, it stayed on because it wasn't turned off correctly.

As stated multiple times: Capacitors holding some juice. This sort of thing is why old CRT's are firmly in the "kill you dead" category of things not to poke around inside.
