    Mine's always my friend.

Though sometimes it's an abusive friend who uses me for his own benefit. :p

Feels a bit odd to say this, but I just checked to see if I had Microsoft Excel installed for the first time in aaaages. Not that I need it for what I am doing, Openoffice.org Calc will be just dandy. I still have MS Office 2000 and 97 available, must have "forgotten" to install them 2 years ago (i think) at the last reinstall.
and yet I have Wordperfect 12 installed, shows where the MS product ranks for me.

LibreOffice is suppose to be the new top notch open source based office suite. Based off of open office and apparently more actively developed.

Interesting. I have heard of that before but have not thought of it in a long time. Certainly looks worth a solid try.
In this particular case I shall be installing Word 2000 for the only reason I ever have for many years now - the more fluid table creation and editing.

  12. Been using LibreOffice at home for a while. I like it.

Still on OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 here but I shall look at the portable installation of this and see how it compares. Would make for a good semi-techie type blog entry at least.

I don't like the name of Libre Office.. kind of a lame reason to Open Office over it. I currently have Office 07 and Open Office installed. MS Word can't be beat but I liked a few things Open Office did in PowerPoint better. I'm really tempted to upgrade to Office 2010.... word art is suppose to be a shit-ton better in it.

... side note, the new micrsoft live stuff like live mesh and skydrive are actually kinda cool live mesh isn't quite top notch but I do love it.

My latest in the MS line of options and more than enough for me is MS Office 2000. As I said, the only time I have touched it in the past several years is for creating tables. The interface in OO . 0rg makes more sense to me* and I have no use or need for VB scripts or anything else that works much better in the MS option.

*Easy example - To change page layout go to <Format/Page>, MS Word puts it in the file menu.

  16. I am far from a power user... just some set lists and such. Got Office on the system, just don't use it.

As scary as it sounds, I am entertaining thoughts of possibly (and I use the word here very loosely still) looking at a 13" Macintosh Powerbook Pro.

but the dark side has cookies, man. And that big guy in black with the breathing problem isn't THAT scary once you get to know him, right?
Not so sure about the old wrinkled guy in the robes though.
