Finished bottling my mead!

    I've always wanted to try mead but never found a good one (affordably)... and the only alcohol I could ever stand was whiskey, or sweet stuff like Kahlua. According to some fellow sephardim, and my mother, it's a moroccan thing. I guess I came by it through the visits to the family in Israel as a kid and a little bloodline shenanigans.

    When you guys say "sweet" mead are we talking sweet as in how wheat beers are "sweet" or as in how you can make a cup of earl grey sweet?

    More like the difference between sweet/dry wine. The main factor is how much honey is left over in the mead after the yeast is done gobbling it up and turning it into alcohol.
     
  3. The Pyment I've had was sweet and fruity, almost fruit punch-like. If I wasn't sure of it, I'd wonder if there was alcohol at all.

    I suppose that's actually a very helpful answer... but I've never had wine. My experiences so far have mainly been with hard liquors.

    Sweetness is not an easy thing to describe, there is likely a parallel to be had with tea, but I can't hammer it out in my head. Unfortunately, I don't know that there is comparison with liquor that will hold up.

    Maybe chocolates come close. Milk chocolates being at the 'sweet' end and dark chocolates being at the 'dry' end. Only, you know, with honey/grape flavor instead of cocoa.
