I'm hearing, way too often, "heal" and "healing." Mostly from the people who stand to gain disproportionately from a restrained reaction to the Capitol Invasion, and Republicans who know further damage can be done to the GOP.

    FTS!

Do NOT allow/repeat the "a time to heal" that occurred after Watergate, and Nixon and Ford.

    Heeling is for dogs.

Healing can happen after we scoop out the infection of this abscess that is Trump's GOP..

While on one hand, I could see myself getting caught up in a mob protest like this and invading the Capitol just as a tourist, even if there were others in group that were out for blood. And honestly, I wish there were millions of passionate people that would show up for universal healthcare or fixing the environment/water in this country.

But on the other hand, I think that this mob would have killed as many Representatives as necessary if it meant that Trump would win. And if a few more of those people were armed and willing to shoot as many people as needed, it could have been so much worse.

I've been giving some thought to the idea that many people got caught up in the moment and originally had no intention of violently invading the capitol building.

But part of me says people should be held responsible for their actions. I saw very few really young people in the crowds in the Capitol Building, most appeared to be at least 21.

    Nope, no soup for them.
You’re responsible for your own actions.
That’s what being an adult is about.
    And there are consequences.

    You storm The Capital???
    Come on.
Even on my angriest and most idiotic day
I’d know better than to break into The Capital.

Oh...it’s not like the broke into a Bank, a Police Station, a Courthouse, the State Capital, an Army base, etc and so on...
They trounced the whole damn US Capital
And put Senators and Congress-members in harms way
Much less attacks on police, etc

Hell, even the Boston Tea Party, they broke into only a ship...and threw over some tea.
It’s not like they literally stormed the King’s Palace.
(Considered a “no no” back then, y’know)

    I have NO sympathy.
This was an easy one to figure out.

The finger pointing among the agencies that should've been prepared for the Capitol Building Invasion, and should've responded quicker once it started, is getting intense.

One huge overall battle is who asked for what when once things went wrong. There are numerous conflcting timelines.

The above needs to be sorted out so that the liars and delayers can be identified and punished.

The bigger issue is figuring out who dropped the ball before the CBI. Some claim Steven Sund turned down offers for assistance, assuring everyone the USCP had everything under control. Sund says his requests for assistance were declined because the two Sargent At Arms didn't want "bad optics."

I hope there are clear records of what took place before and during this fiasco.

    Followup on above...
Deep State to Q: "You cheered on lawyers who said they'd release the Kraken. But now you've poked Leviathan"

This is going to be what the consequences for them are.
    They’ve woken the giant.
As Japan found out, As Iraq found out
There is a HUGE security apparatus in the US.
The Federal government lives to track this stuff down.

Whether they act or not...that’s a crapshoot but likely
But they WILL go after everyone they can, to find them.
It will make the IRS look like girls scouts by comparison.
Not paying on your student loans like nothing in long term credit impact.

Good luck to all that was stupid enough to join.
They think that life was tough before to trigger their anger.
They’re going to get a forever cutting pendulum hovering over them.
It IS going to be on their permanent record and then some.

    Some thing can’t be undone.
    They made that choice.

But then again...the dead can’t choose anymore either.
That mob did it...they were a part of that.

Maybe it will be a lesson learned for people to be more rational in the future.

For example, I chose not to go to DC on any of these protests. Why??? Because shit might go down.
You stay out of the stupidity.

I’ve had mobs and riots spontaneously develop around me at concerts. You get out of there quick.
    Stay out of the madness.

    They went towards it.
Is their anger worth it now??

I was just reading an account of the event just like that this morning, but the guy didn't storm the castle he stayed back and watched.

I also feel like, do crimes, do times @rogue49.
This has been way beyond anything one could overlook as just caught up in the fervour.

It's nice to know the Parler participants have their info preserved for future legal use. The concern is distinguishing between the curious, those simply wanting some general interaction with other conservatives, and those who encouraged violence.

Uhh, I think they may be protected now...
    Certainly are more prepared

Images show National Guard deployment to secure the U.S. Capitol after riots — CNBC

Well, the normal folk get to see how powerful the US is when it wants to be.

Overkill, but I think they’re making a statement.
Not that I mind, in this case.

I certainly hope no crazies try for the line.

It’s just best for everyone to stay home.
    I certainly would.

And I think the opposition has learned to let the alt-right to hang themselves. (stay out of the way of stupid)

Because they weren’t there at all during the riot.

    We’ll see
    It may still get weirder

While the Capitol is more protected, I'm still not sure if they are ready for a true Trump mob that is willing to kill for their President and thinks that Biden developed Covid-19 to win the election...

It is good that they are taking the threats seriously, and if Trump isn't in the White House on Jan 20th, that might help prevent it from being surrounded by people who don't want to let the Democrats take over. But I don't think this is over yet.

Covert operations. Sneak attacks. Use the trusting and unsuspecting supporters for diversionary gatherings.

I can, sort of, understand The 2016 Perfect Storm of Discontent.
I can not understand the continued support for Conman Trump.

he got impeached yesterday. that's twice in one term.... Do they have time to take it to court to get him out? or will it be after? will it still happen since he is not president anymore? what/are their any repercussions from being impeached again?

No, it’s fine in this thread
That’s what got him here...refusing to concede the election.

It’s not dumb either, many experts are asking the same.
This is a very unusual scenario and it’s not well defined in the Constitution

    Answers...
The Senate has all the time it needs for the case.
The Constitution gives full discretion to them.
It doesn’t go to court...it’s all in the Senate
With them trying it, investigation and jury and judges.
All the Senators vote, whether guilty or not.
AND in a separate vote What to penalize him with.

He would likely lose the ability to hold Federal office again
They can take away his pension, his security and more.

Since the current majority leader Mitch McConnell has said he won’t call back the Senate from vacation until the 19th...it won’t start until after.
Unless they decide to vote that day...also unlikely.
Once the Senate comes back, they’ll vote for new leaders.
Since it’s 50/50, the VP Kamilia Harris is the tie breaker.
She’ll likely put the Dems in charge, since she’s Dem.
McConnell will be out. Another will replace him, a Dem.

There’s no literal repercussions from being Impeached more than once.
Other than any shame, political damage and it’s not happened before...so it goes down in History for the US. (no other country cares)
He could get off...and be allowed to run again.
IF he won, he could be impeached again...knowing his pattern.

BUT, it looks like many GOP are through with him.
So there’s a good chance, he’ll be convicted
They need 2/3 of the Senators present to convict.
Some are predicting some GOP will go home...so they don’t have to vote, making the count smaller.
IF all Senators are there...and we assume that all Dems vote to convict (they don’t have to), then they’ll need at least 16 GOP to vote to convict.
    That’s a high threshold.

    There’s a good chance he’ll get off.
BUT right now, he’s radioactive so many are getting away from him.
We have no idea which way it will go.

But, no matter what...Biden will be prez at noon on January 12th.
In truth, you just need a judge and a witness for the swearing in. It doesn’t matter how or where.
Like when Johnson took over for Kennedy.

T will be out...no power at all.

    Get the popcorn out
It’s going to be a nail biter.

The thing is, please forgive my bluntness, explanations of the impeachment process are all over the internet, especially now. And much of the process has been discussed and explained in several threads (which can be confusing).

The "court" is the US Senate. That is where the trial will be held. McConnell, who for now leads the Senate, has made it clear the Senate will not start hearing the case until 20 Jan 21.

Yes, the impeachment trial can take place after Trump is out of office. If found guilty, he obviously can't be removed from an office he no longer holds, but he can be barred from holding any office in the future. This is very important because it woul mean no presidential run in 2024, and his current and potential political power would be greatly reduced.

He would also lose a hefty (in my world) pension, and Secret Service protection.

The pension might not mean much to Trump, but it could depending on what happens with his businesses and loan payments coming due, and his almost certain legal expenses.

Losing the Secret Service protection could be huge. Trump likes to travel, and having SS agents travel with him is very expensive to taxpayers. He could be in real danger. Renouncing the violent actions of his followers has enraged some of those followers, and most certainly there are radical people on the left who might go after Trump. His family members would also be left vulnerable.
