Where are you when your thoughts are clearest?

There is something definitely soothing when stepping into a warm shower; water sprinkling down on my face and body. My world opens up to some incredible thoughts. Until finally; I have to turn off the water, grab a towel. Many ideas and dreams to be sorted out.
I have actually made some important decisions in the shower. Just wondering…

When I saw the thread title I thought I could come up with some clever response but you actually got it nailed.
What I can add it that it has been joked about at the office that there should be installed showers so I would get more great ideas :)

I tend to do a lot of thinking while driving and have often figured out solutions to nagging problems in the car.

It's weird, but I don't think I do much thinking in the shower. I see it as a time to turn off.

Driving and the shower are big ones for me.

One of my supervisors at one of my jobs said that if I'm doing planning while in the shower, I should be writing that on my timesheet, and said that he writes some of his best sermons in the shower. It's kind of nice to get paid for showering.

If I'm alone in the shower, I usually read until the hot water runs out. True story.

I think best on days that I'm working from home and I'm the only one here, especially late morning.

  6. I was just thinking about this the other day because I was missing my winter ritual.

Some people may call me crazy, but I miss Ohio winters. Yes, there is snow in Oregon, but not really in the valley where I live. Definitely not in the amounts I was used to in Ohio. I love snow. I love winter. I would sit on my porch at night during the winter and watch the snow fall. It was so quiet and peaceful. I would get my best thinking done during this time. I think the cold would shock my system and help me have a point of clarity. It doesn't get that cold in Oregon, so when people bitch, I just roll my eyes.

The weather in the summer is better in Oregon, but it's just so dreary in the winter. You can't even see the the stars at night like I could in Ohio so I haven't even bothered having a late night winter brain session. I just don't like it here in the winter. During the day, even when the ground was blanketed in snow in Ohio, the sun still shined brightly. Maybe I could get a job where I work 6 months in Oregon and 6 months in Ohio. I don't think that exists unless I go self employed somehow...I don't exactly have skills though.

That's what I miss most about Ohio....my winter thinking time

Big ones for me are the shower, driving around aimlessly, having a smoke, and sitting in the plane while sipping on a beer/vodka drink.

It used to be driving when I was living in California or riding my motorcycle when living in NJ.

Now it's as soon as I wake up. I have little to no emotional residue when I wake up and it's really easy to figure out tough questions and problems at that moment. Okay, exception is when the cat jumps on me and wakes me up startled... it doesn't work when that happens in fact it really colors everything for the whole morning.

  10. Whenever i go for a run. The longer the run, the more problems i solve.

I cant explain how clear my thoughts are during these runs. Its quite remedial knowing that i can refresh by doing a two or 3 hour run, even though id be knackered when i got back.

One day ill solve all the worlds problems on one of these runs, but it'd have to be one helluva run i think.

Oh Yeah! Winter snows in Ohio and PA are the best, and so peaceful. I like that "Winter Thinking".

6 a.m. After first cuppa. I have to agree with the driving thing, too. My car is my think tank. I'll stay in it longer than necessary.

I'm not sure about where I'm the most focused, but I tend to be more creative late in the night

  15. Long drive, working out (cardio) and oddly I've found over the past few weeks that when I am dead tired I have better focus. Don't know if I have always been that way or it is recent.

    Bear Cub Goes down smooth.

    When shooting.

At the range, in full-blown competition mode, is about the only time my attention is 100% undivided. The rest of the time, I have a million thoughts going through my head, whether at work or at home.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

When I am on my bicycle.
I am not usually conscious of what my brain is up to during that time but somehow I have new ideas, and answers to unsolved problems when the ride is over.
Early morning oddly enough is not good for me.
I seem to feel anxious about everything to be done during the upcoming day. It's usually a lot of cluttered thoughts that take a while to work themselves out and form into a plan for the day.

Mostly in the shower as well.
Once in awhile while sitting on the patio in the summer or on a long drive. The driving one is rare though. I usually shut down everything but critical systems on long hauls.
