Lets see what happens if/when Biden get inaugurated

 

Now I think you're being intentionally coy.

What is bothering you?

What did you want to happen?

What actions or inaction are you expecting from Biden? By the time he is inaugurated, things in Oregon could long settled, and this thread will be buried.

 

In Portland the mayor, and the governor of Oregon, appeared to (absolutely did) adopt a policy of appeasement towards the protestors turned rioters. I think from the start some criminals planned to use the protests as an excuse (actually a cover) to commit crimes.

Appeasement rarely works. Once the group (it could be an individual) sees it faces no consequences for its illegal activities, and is in fact rewarded for them with concessions, it becomes emboldened. And the cycle of violence followed by appeasement, followed by violence, etc. continues.

Containment isn't exactly appeasement, but can be seen as a form of appeasement. Letting the criminals get away with criminal activity as long as it doesn't spread is a bad policy as well.

Either way, allowing criminal activity out of fear of further enraging a certain ethnic group sucks, and it certainly doesn't look good.

But without being in Portland and knowing all the details, I can't say whether or not the rioting, looting, and arson was mishandled.

My gut feeling is once a person, regardless of skin color, decides to break the law, especially in a violent way, that person should be arrested. Period. In the real world those actions could create more problems than they solve.

Do I sound on the fence? Does the situation in Portland have an easy solution?

 

Agreed. This seems like the most reasonable option to me. Also give them some type of prominent display that points out how they were good for the community.
