Because some people in charge are stupid
And don’t think it will affect them or those they care for.
They think it only affects “others” or “them”
The “it won’t happen to me” mindset.

I see it happen again and again
    Many won’t stop.

Our daughters sleepover camps were all cancelled.
Friends of ours were able to send their 2 daughters and it has been fine for them.
The key: It's an 8 week sleepover.
They tested everyone pre-arrival, and on arrival.
Then locked everyone in , including counselors, for the 8 weeks. Nobody can enter or exit.
They put them in small pods of 10 for the first 2 weeks so if any cases arose they would be contained. Masks and distancing were mandatory.
Once they cleared the 2 week mark they let them all intermix, and have a normal camp experience.
    So far, so good.

That might be the way to do it, but that is difficult to do for 8 weeks I would think.

    It is.
Our daughters were 2 and 4 week blocks.
With rotating groups like that, I don't think here was any way for it to work this summer.
Having a single group that remains isolated for 8 weeks was the only way it was happening.

I am a scout leader in Oz. We are only just in the last few weeks back to face to face meetings, and while overnight activities are allowed, it is basically one person per tent, which actually makes it impractical for us to do camps. There are rules about coming if you are feeling ill, using hand sanitiser, restricted numbers for in hall meetings etc. While our state case numbers are relatively low, scouts are much more likely to err on the side of cancelling face to face rather than the bad publicity of being a "hot spot". If our cases spike, they are likely to pull the pin rather than allowing us to continue meeting.

    Followup...

I know it takes a year to fully heal from a big health issue
I usually think of an injury or surgery
But a serious illness could be a factor too

I wonder if anyone who had cancer or other serious matter say it lingers for a year until 100%

I guess we’ll have to return from a year from now and see

I had a chat on the weekend with a guy who was one of the "early adopters" in Australia. Here we are a few months later and he said he is finding himself breathless and tired a lot more than usual. Quite a fit mid 40s guy, so the anecdotal evidence is that it can have quite a lingering affect.

In other news, I went and got tested myself today. Just assuming a fairly minor winter cold, but better safe than sorry. Expect test results SMSed to me in the next 72 hours. I have to self isolate but my family are free to go about their business if they have no symptoms. The process was quite painless (they have a clinic setup at the local hospital), but the procedure itself is quite uncomfortable (the term scratching your brain through your nose is quite apt).

New cases in the state hit double figures yesterday with one at my local hospital, so it kinda pushed me not to ignore the snotty nose and cough.

Yeah, Russia “really” cares about its people...
So either it’s effectively a placebo, not working
Or it’s hurting/killing them with side affects
    Or both.

And it’s not like we’re going to know if it works
Because Russia won’t tell the truth on its counts
So more will be “cured” than the true number
And they’ll cover up any deaths and hospitalizations
Which they’re doing ALREADY with the virus.

Let’s hope they don’t get up to WWII numbers...
    Again, not that they care.

my daughters school (shes in a private school) started last tuesday 8/4/20. we chose to do virtual learning for her. we included her in the decision because it affects her also. she wanted to go to school but dont want to get sick. got an email 8/11/20 that someone in the 7th grade tested positive, so the entire 7th grade was sent home. next day got an email that an 8th grader tested positive, got an email the next day that 2 administrators tested positive. so im glad we made that decision. my daughter told us that 4 kids in her gradr (7th) have it. of course she talks to them all so she knows.

cherokee county here in ga has 2 schools that have over 1000 cases and they closed the entire school.

im sure that the schools are doing the best that they can to keep all the kids safe but the issue is you dont know what they do when they are not at school.

This is mostly a test on my new tablet.

Mentioning GA, I remember the girl who got suspended for posting a video of the crowded halls and very few masks being worn at her public school. The principal was forced to reinstate her, and a few days later the school was closed because they exceeded the allowance for positive tests.

I wouldn't trust being around anyone who had the virus still. Not until that statistic can be confirmed by other international health agencies.

Allen Pan has invented a mask gun that ought to come in very handy:

(Yes, exactly what you think it is: a gun that fires a mask at your target- and it works, too!) :)

Got an e-mail today. Someone in the office tested positive yesterday. Last time the person was in the office was late last week. At least, unlike my wife's place of work, we got an e-mail. She had to find out via the rumor mill that someone tested positive at her location. Temp checks start next week. YAY!
