Listening to the Michael W. Smith album "Go West Young Man" - the cassette tape was sitting in my somewhat fancy tape deck with the digital display/index optimised for high speed dubbing. It is still in decent shape for being as old or nearly as old as easily half the kids I work with, but I would refrain from transferring this copy and go with a new CD print.
Vinyls are so much more durable properly stored and cared for than any of tape I have come across.
