If you can't even take the simple courtesy of breaking up your lengthy post with paragraphs then I will not do the simple courtesy of reading it.

I never said American companies wouldn't be able to sell their goods where ever they please. And American free market capitalism includes America, not the rest of the world.

Uh, these workers still have social security.

Whoa, that's a socialist government "entitlement". Won't you be wanting to do away with that?

    Off discussion but on topic:

Joe Walsh (Tea Party and Republican) talking points and misinformation on the OWS movement. (Vets protesting with OWS are anti-american)

Well, that's beside the point, isn't it? I'm sure many of them also have sons and daughters.

    pan6467 a triangle in a circular world.

I am truly convinced the GOP (and TPers) hardcore right have lost touch with reality. They want us to roll back gains that in EVERY other fucking industrialized nation, have, except for those who have serious human rights violations. Now, I understand why the GOP wants out of the UN so badly, they don't want the UN to enforce human rights here. Child labor coming from a serious GOP candidate?????? Come on now, I can't even see their GOD Ronald F'n Reagan, supporting something so ignorantly insane as that.

This is the party the supposed Christian leaders support???? It makes me wonder at times, if Jesus exists how can he keep letting these guys "speak" for him? Then I remember the Sermon on the Mount, false prophets and all.

It's all about greed and power, the Christian Right is being used because they want power and the GOP gives it to them for the price of their votes and support. The GOP stands for EVERYTHING CHRIST WAS AGAINST. Jesus was in NO WAY anti-taxes, HE stated who's name is on the coin? Caesar's, thus it belong to Caesar (paraphrased).

It's also why the GOP hates Islam, because one of Islam's tenets I believe is to not charge interest.

The GOP and TP can have the Sunday Christians, who don't have the intelligence to know what is right and what is wrong in Jesus' eyes, they need to be led and told. That's why they were/are so upset over Rev. Wright. Rev. Wright GAVE an opinion, not a declaration that his "followers" had to feel that way. Whereas, the religious right need to be told and have to be told so they don't understand how a church leader's opinion would not be the way his followers would think.

Sorry, there was a point to this but I went off on a tangent.

And if Newt has his way, grandchildren and great grandchildren working to support them while working 16 hour days for their educations. Some Christian values.

I'm anti social security because it's our money that the government forcibly takes from our income.

Well, it's a good thing it's constitutional. I wouldn't want thousands of old folks to lose their dignity on account of people not giving a shit.

Glad to see you're anti-General Motors, Eddie. All your plan means you're anti-General Electric, anti-Apple, anti-AIG/Chartis and anti-any American-based multinational. There's no way for them to survive your scheme, especially if prices are expected to stay static. All of them are at least dependent on foreign parts, not to mention foreign markets. These companies would pretty much have no choice but to completely abandon the US.

Sorry, but your idea is so head slappingly stupid that I have to keep looking for Moe Howard.

It would never happen; it's too socialist. And if people are freaking out at the watered-down version of health care reform that Obama did, I can't imagine how people would respond to this.

    Could you imagine?

Eddie's idea is the government forcing itself into every single American company as a mandatory business partner telling them how to run things. It's the government becoming a heavy-handed part of the HR, marketing, development, and purchasing departments.

So much for for free enterprise — you know, that silly concept were business is governed by the laws of supply and demand, rather than government interference and regulation.

The government is already a partner to many companies by that definition. Companies already do such things via regulation, taxation, and tariffs. Companies are told exactly how to hire/fire, house, compensate, employees. They are told exactly what amounts of pollution are allowed.

Try manufacturing anything that requires chemicals in the US. You'll find that there are strict controls as to the pollution that is created by the cast off and waste.

Consider why most major corporations incorporate in the state of Delaware instead of California.

We have some protected goods here in the US. Try importing peanuts and find out just how much that tariff is. We had similar tariffs with autos which were circumvented via the foreign manufacturers building plants here in the US.

cynthetiq, I know this. But what I meant to illustrate what that Eddie's plan is rather heavy-handed. It's one thing to have a law preventing an employer from firing someone based on religion; it's another thing entirely to have a law forcing employers to hire Americans exclusively.

The current regulatory environment in the U.S. is quite different compared to what was proposed here. And most regulations have a rationale, many of which are in the interests of safety, fairness, and rights of individuals.

Tariffs, however, are a sticky issue. I understand the desire for protectionism. I also understand the desire for free trade. I'm more of a fair trade kind of guy. It's difficult to talk about these issues in generalities though. Either way, government legislation mandating the severe reduction or elimination of imports is insane.

cynthetiq, I think you've missed the irony in this thread. Might want to go back a couple of pages.

in the last few months usa companies are fast moving their business to MX before the laws change here.
Whirlpool, Ryerson, Nortech. Whirlpool got bail out money i think. not sure about the other two.

Truckers in MX can now deliver straight to the usa. (something about being able to answer 15 questions in english.)
American truckers will be facing layoffs.
Trying to get more info. on this is a little difficult.

I don't know why the debate has to always devolve into Socialism vs. Capitalism.

The facts are that neither in its pure form is desirable. The key is a healthy balance between the two.

The Free Market is just as much a myth as is Socialism. Neither exists in any form but theory. Any actual government that has striven for pure forms of either, has collapsed. Some of the most stable economies today are ones that strive to find the balance between these two ideologies.

This really should go without saying. Most major economies are mixed economies, the U.S. included.

I don't know why it can't go without saying. Shit, Charlatan, why did you have to say it?

Whether the corporations can "take it" is a poor indicator for determining whether to initiate potentially devastating regulatory policies. You'd be more keen on this if you actually do prefer free market capitalism as you mentioned. You obviously don't.

You clearly believe America isn't competitive enough to thrive in a free market environment. There are a number of reason for this, but it doesn't matter. Most nations aren't well equipped to compete in a true free market environment. That's why it doesn't exist.

The last three pages of this thread have dealt almost solely with Eddie's (Tea Party/Libertarian) hypocrisy on the issue of government regulation and interference. He/they want none of it unless it serves to improve their own lives. It's not about Socialism or Capitalism. It's purely about selfishness.

They are willfully ignorant of the world, including their own country. Whatever they don't understand, they belittle. Science is a bag of tricks and intellectual thought is anti-american.

It's been enjoyable watching Eddie squirm but sad, as well.

Requiring American companies to employ American workers is not anti-free market, it's pro-America. And you know what? We need some pro-America stuff going on right now because Americans have been getting robbed blind by their government. Taking all our money and giving it to banks and ceo's. Enough of that.

It's time to enact policies that are going to help the American people rather than big banks, big government and big corporations. It's time to give this country back to the people and the only way to do that is to pull away from the global mindset that our politicians and the left are stuck in. Global economy, global government....forget that. It's time to focus on America.
