Another partial reversal of the pullout from Syria (something tells me this is more the Dept of Defense than it is Trump).

We're going to leave troops behind to protect the oilfields in Syria from "the Islamic state." I can understand this.

And I can see our troops staying in Syria as part of our global plan to protect
our inalienable right to cheap oil. "By God, we're the United States of America, and we'll do everything in our power to protect our right to use up every oil deserve in the world if we want to! God wants the USA to have cheap gasoline!!"

Actually, we don’t need the oil
We’ve become almost as big of exporters as Saudis
He’s protecting it for his Saudi allies (and Russia)

And he canceled the punitive sanctions for Turkey after 2 weeks (a gesture to distract, that’s it)

Make you a bet he’ll put restrictions on fracking soon too...
Because this is pissing of the Saudis and Russia
And they can’t raise their gas prices due to the competition

He doesn’t care if he pissed off the oil companies
He just needs a gullible spin and excuse, to rationalize it and get away with it.

    That’s his MO
“accidental” unexpected act (usually benefiting Russia or corporate connections)
Pull back slightly (show a gesture)
    Spin and distract
Then push forward again, as if everything is fine

Shit happens before you know it
The news cycle and GOP can’t keep up
Then shuffle after it quiets and go on even further

    He’s found America’s blind spot

Dems don’t act or can’t (by GOP)
    GOP can’t deny or protest
News can’t keep its eye on the ball

He does it by audacity and bullshit
    Smoke and mirrors

I see some reports from the Conserative media questioning the news that the photo was staged. I can certainly believe posed.

Our fearless leader, conveniently surrounded by his team, looking stern sitting directly under the presidential seal...........yeah, right.

Let's not forget him at the press conference acting smug & proud as though he'd lead the team himself (bone spurs, anyone?).

There are now stories saying that Trumps' surprise/impulsive decision to pull troops out of Syria almost ruined the plans to find al-Baghdadi. But we must remember that Bone Spurs is smarter than the US Intelligence agencies .

There is an even bigger difference.

The Bush/Obama auto bailout was in the form of loan guarantees contingent on GM restructuring and then stock options in the "new" GM, all of which was paid back to the US treasury and more.

Trump's farm bailout is not a loan or a loan guarantee, it is in the form of grants or direct aid to farmers (on a per acre basis) and is not intended to be repaid.

Trump Approval Hits New Low Among Republicans
Against the backdrop of impeachment, Trump's job approval rating is stable and low, at 38% in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, with one notable result: a career low in approval among Republicans, 74%, down steeply from a career-high 87% in July.

"WOW. A blowout jobs number"???

    The "jobs number" just out...

THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- OCTOBER 2019

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 128,000 in October, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 3.6 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today...

... Job growth has averaged 167,000 per month thus far in 2019, compared with an average monthly gain of 223,000 in 2018....

The new jobs numbers for August and September were revised up by a combined 95,000 over the two months but, once again, the latest monthly jobs added in October -- 128,000 -- is well below the monthly average for the year (167,000).

And that monthly average for 2019 to-date of 167,000 is the lowest in eight years.

    Monthly average new jobs added
    • 2011: 167,000
    • 2012: 178,000
    • 2013: 191,000
    • 2014: 249,000
    • 2015: 225,000
    • 2016: 186,000
    • 2017: 171,000
    • 2018: 223,000
    • 2019: 167,000 (first ten months)
The fact that new jobs (128,000 in Oct) are still being added is good; a sign that the economy is still expanding , but at a much slower rate.

Much like the GDP report released earlier this week.

Gross Domestic Product, Third Quarter 2019 (Advance Estimate)
Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 1.9 percent in the third quarter of 2019 (table 1), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the second quarter, real GDP increased 2.0 percent.
Trump did not tweet about the less than stellar economic growth for the quarter of 1.9 percent; the second straight quarter of weak economic growth (and three out of the last four quarters).

This despite his forecast last year , "We're Going To See Economic Growth Of 4, 5 And Maybe 6 Percent"

Trump reminds me of a used car salesman in an expensive suit, he's willing to say anything to make the sell.

The difference is he sold risky real estate deals, risky business ventures, etc. And he managed to sell himself as a viable POTUS.

In Trump’s Twitter Feed: Conspiracy-Mongers, Racists and Spies
By retweeting suspect accounts, seemingly without regard for their identity or motives, he has lent credibility to white nationalists, anti- Muslim bigots and obscure QAnon adherents like VB Nationalist, an anonymous account that has promoted a hoax about top Democrats worshiping the Devil and engaging in child sex trafficking.

Read the links. The Ukraine mess is just one of many things Trump has done that are unethical at best and illegal at worst. He was (still is)
a shyster businessman and he's a shyster president.

On a personal level, which definitely shows in his business and political dealings, Trump is petty, vindictive, childish, impulsive, and petulant. He's also frequently contrary for apparently no other reason than being contrary.

Trump is also narcissistic. He is in love with Donald Trump, and in his mind Donald Trump can do no wrong. To the point of ignoring people more knowledgeable than him.

Just about every accomplishment Trump claims can be debunked. Most times it was something that was going to happen anyway, or it happened in spite of Trump.

If you think this reply is verbose, be glad I'm on my phone not the laptop.

Trump was elected at a time when , IMO. partisan division was as great as anytime in my lifetime.

What compounds that division with Trump, again IMO, goes beyond the usual divide over policy issues to the issues of character and morality. The hypocrisy of many Trump supporters (not anyone here) is astounding. One question I ask those supporters in another political forum is why they wont hold Trump to the same standard they held Obama and they simply do not have an honest response.

He comes to the presidency with a background as a CEO of a privately held business where he did not have to answer to anyone and where authoritarian behavior is common.

He resents the fact that the president is held to a higher standard and is accountable to "the people" directly and through the other co-equal branches of the government and the media. There are checks and balances that he doesnt like but that are critical to preventing any president from becoming too authoritarian, a fear the framers addressed in multiple provisions of the Constitution. He is not above the law and certainly some of his actions may be corrupt at many levels. He certainly hasnt "drained the swamp" but instead the swamp is worse than ever with more cabinet officials and other high level appointees having conflicts of interests.

With regard to the media, it is the role of the media to hold any president accountable. Most take it in stride. Not Trump.

Much of the media reporting is in response to his own questionable actions, inappropriate behavior and serial lying. I dont know how anyone can deny that Trump is a serial liar, in both public remarks and daily tweet storms. Correcting his lies or reporting in a manner that is critical of his personal actions or actions of his administration is not, IMO, making him out to be bad.

But his response is bad. Characterizing mainstream credible news organizations as "Fake News" or the "enemy of the people" is not only counter to everything the framers believed when adopting the First Amendment to guarantee a free and independent press, but is also incredibly irresponsible and dangerous. Numerous reporters have had death threats from Trump supporters acting because they were told those reporters are "the enemy of the people."

His childish name calling of critics in Congress is beneath the dignity of the office. And characterizing some of those critics as anti-American has also resulted in numerous death threats to members of Congress.

I've disagreed on many policy issues with all the Republican presidents (and some Democrats) in my adult life, but I never feared for the future of the country as i do with Trump.

Trump likes to present himself as a populist, but again, IMO, he is more demagogue that populist and relies on fear-mongering, race baiting, and more lies, to play to his base and all of which further divides the country. This is most notable on the issue of immigration policy.

In terms of his accomplishments I honestly cannot think of any that are significant. He takes more credit for the economy that he deserves (as do most presidents), he has attempted to gut environmental regulations (most of his actions are being challenged in the courts where he is losing most cases), he has attempted to roll back both civil rights and women's reproductive rights (also being challenged in the courts), he has alienated many allies with his foreign policies to the point where the US is view more unfavorable around the world than under any recent president.

I appreciate that there all many well meaning Trump supporters but I honestly believe he is a real threat to our democracy.
