Motorcycles,do you ride?

I've been riding
motorcycles since I was 12. I've owned 8 different bikes ranging from a Honda CB350 to my latest Harley. I love to ride and most days that's what I'm doing. In this part of the country we have a lot of back roads and beautiful scenic country.

 

I have had my endorsement since I was 19 or 20, so about 25 years. I have maybe 15 hours on a bike since I have never owned one. In Maryland it was too crowded to ride; too much traffic. I have been in Colorado now for 11 years, but I have 8 year old daughters. Not yet willing to leave them fatherless. Plus even if I bought a nice used bike I would double the cost for riding gear. When I was a state trooper I had the income. But every 6 months or so I would cover a serious bodily injury or fatality that would dissuade me for a while. Some of them had years of experience. One guy owned a company that distributed harley parts. Laid the bike down on his old lady's knee that was outside of his hips. The streak on the road went from denim to tissue to blood to gristle. The elk vs motorcycle that killed an accountant from vail. My avatar is me from the paper covering that crash. The time harley factory riders were showing several dealer owner the latest models on a weekend jaunt. Dealer owner crashed into the pro. I just have to add that a lot of harley riders really are not very good riders from my experience. Plus when you add their overweight bikes and the extreme age of Harley riders, its a bad mix. Though the new streetfighter model finally looks desirable for someone under 60.

 

ive never owned one, ive ridden a few. they have always been Harleys that my friends have owned. they are nice but I have just never purchased one. maybe one day

 

I've had a motorcycle endorsement since I was 16 ( a week or so after I got my driver's license).

I gave up riding for 15 years for that reason. I'm riding a 2012 BMW R1200RT, these days. It's a nice fit for the Colorado canyon driving that I prefer.

 

It’s never to late to get started my best friend bought a classic Triumph 650 and at age 65 learned to ride then he bought a Harley Sportster now he has to decide which bike to ride. Most of the time he takes the Harley because the Triimph is a kick start only and he has trouble starting it.

For years I rode Honda's they are very good and dependable motorcycle. I bought my first Harley Davidson two years ago and fell in love with it. I can't picture me riding any other bike.

 

Hey all I’m Michael from great Bend Kansas and I’ve been associated with motorcycles my entire life..... my mother drove a Harley dual glide when I was in her womb, and the thump thump of the v-twin was my first memorable sound. I collected Triumphs from my first new one in 1973 until Two years ago , when in a moment of despair I sold the entire collection of 9 as a lot on 4/20/2016. I just got tired of having to move them with me and worry about their security all the time. Last fall I was looking at bikes on eBay and came across a 1996 BMW 1100rs at auction with no minimum, bid on it, and ended up with a tremendous buy on a fantastic motorcycle! I drove to Anaheim to retrieve it in my Dodge Ram
and after going over it to make sure everything was in good operational condition, I registered, insured and have ridden it for a season. I’d looked atBMW’s in the early ‘80’s when the R90s was popular, and had always wanted one, but raising a family took precedence and I never followed through. Perhaps that’s why I took the sight unseen chance and bid on my ‘96 but it has turned out to be the best thing for my spirit and my enjoyment, for it is truly a “magic carpet” so smooth and quick, and after a season of carefree operation( unlike the Triumphs which always had to be wrenched on to run) I’ve decided it undoubtedly is the premium motorcycle of them all, in every category.
I’m looking forward to the springtime and another season of wind in my hair and mile after mile of fun on two wheels. I just turned 66 (going on 25) and I’m single, looking for a younger female to join me on my bike and in my life. I’ve got a lot of living left and don’t want to do it without being able to share all of the wonder with another, and in some way enrich her life too!

I took my first ride of 2019 today. My Harley Low Rider started and ran fantastic. I always love the first ride of the year.

Rode fifty miles today. 40 degrees snow still melting but it was totally worth it.

 

Ist Bike a 1980 Honda CX500 (in 1980)...rode like a baby buggy....lived in Oyster Bay LI then...after 2 crashes I sold it
Then when I retired and moved to Ft Lauderdale I bought a BMW R 65, rode that a bit, then another BMW apart in boxes, had 3 CX 500's a Suzuki 750..
Then My wife got on my case about being 70 and getting hurt...sold everything and got "into" Porsche 911's ... much safer.
Now at 84....I don't think I'll be "riding" again....still have the Porsches however...

 

Not sure people want to see all of this on a bike. Lol

Riding is about "Being Seen" . In south FL that is the problem....

 

Because of the blind old farts who refuse to stop driving?

/joke....my night vision has always sucked.

 

I resemble that remark...and no I quit about 10 years ago because it's too dangerous in South FL

 

Riding a motorcycle is and always has been a dangerous activity. No more in south Fla. than in north Boston or any other place. The being seen I was referring to was the vanity of how a person regardless of appearance feels or doesn’t. When I’m riding I could care less what people think about me as long as they see me before they pull out in front of me.
