Like a rum and coke if I'm mixing something. My friend makes one of the best bloody mary's but it gives me HORRIBLE heartburn, so I stay away from them.

Rum, dark. And most any mixer with it, but I really prefer the rum.

My favorite drink depends on the season. In fall/winter/spring, I like bourbon. I like a drink created by a local bartender called the Ray Charles: bourbon, mint, and ginger ale, served in an old fashioned glass. In summer, I like mojitos, or another drink created by a local bartender called the Big Mouse--basically a mojito with gin instead of rum.

That sounds lovely. But, could you help a non-UK person out, and explain what makes the ingredients "proper"? I want to make sure I get the recipe correct.

It depends on the season, but I like the classics:

Summer: Gin & Tonic with a lime wedge, or Vodka Tonic with lime

Fall: Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour

Winter: Scotch on the rocks or a 7 & 7

Spring: Crown & Diet Coke or Manhattan

1-2 shots of rum per bottle of ginger beer works nicely.

  13. I like screwdrivers, but I've found that using OJ gives me heartburn so I make them with orange soda instead. My dad makes kick ass whiskey sours and I have one almost every time I go to his house and stay longer than five minutes. I won't drink them anywhere else. Margaritas are good, but only if they're made with real lime juice and not mix.

    I like:

    Gin/Vodka & Tonic as a starter
    AbsolutVodka + Red Bull
    Smirnoff Vodka + Diet Coke
    Absolut Vodka + Burn
    German beer + Banana juice
Black Velvet (the only dark beer mix I tolerate)

    Goddamnit... I need a drink.

  15. Grey Goose on the rocks with a lemon squeeze
    Makers on the rocks
Pretty much that's it for mixed drinks although I do enjoy gin and lemonade during the summer.

To make this drink, which is one of Mrs. Levite's favorites, you need to make an infused simple syrup ahead of time. So in a small saucepan, put a mixture of half sugar to half water (how much depends on how much syrup you want to keep around: I keep a couple of squeeze bottles full, which is about 4 cups, so I measure accordingly), toss in around a dozen to a dozen and a half star anise, the zest of one lemon. Bring it almost to a simmer, stir well to incorporate, cook for around 15-20 minutes on low, then cool it off, extract the star anise and citrus zest, and bottle it.

    Kauai Sunset

1 shot top shelf golden rum
    1 shot elderflower liqueur
1/2 shot top shelf white rum
    1/2 shot Cointreau
    1.5 oz coconut water
at least 1 oz infused simple syrup, or more to taste (my wife likes 2-3 oz)

Rim a martini glass with a mix of sugar and cinnamon In a cocktail shaker, muddle a slice of fresh pineapple which was dusted lightly with allspice. Add ice, liquors, and simple syrup, shake, strain, and pour into a martini glass. Float a star anise in the glass, and serve.

Right now, I'm drinking apple cider warmed with cranberries, spiked with a little bit of amaretto.

It's super tasty. I love this drink!
