Don't really have a clear favourite, there's been too much amazing food I've had here, or in SE Asia, the Middle East, and Europe .

Though my eternal love will always be a proper Döner Kebab straight out of Germany:

 

Thia food has quickly become my latest fad food. My lil Hmong chick is a Thia chef, AMAZING! I will post some pics.

 

I had a Humboldt fog (and three other kinds) grilled cheese on sourdough with the most perfect tomato soup at a hotel in Santa Barbara for school. Three times in one stay. The next year we came back and it was still great. The third year, they took it off the menu and I boycotted the restaurant. I still dream of it.

 

Some musician friends in San Antonio had steady gigs at a restaurant called The Bharmacy. They served fresh soup de hour. One of the best meals I had was tomato soup and a grilled three cheese sandwich.

Unfortunately the woman who ran The Bharmacy sold it, and it's now shuttered.

30 years ago there was a restaurant in Atlanta called Indian Delights. It looked like McDonalds, but the food they turned out... OMG. There were always more native Indians there than Caucasians. The second time I went in, I noticed all the Indian people were eating these things that looked like big burritos. I asked the counterperson what they were - she said "Mysore Masala." "I'll take one!" "OH! It's very spicy!" "Nevermind that; I'll have one!" It was very spicy (and I was told so each time I went back over the next 10 years), but GODDAMN was it good! And the mixed appetizer platter... I looked like Klingon-food (and I always described it as such) but holy-fuck. Still the best food I've eaten.

 

Just remembering, many years ago, there was a restaurant in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn called Lundy Brothers..Huge place...
They had a Lobster Newburg dish that was one of the best things I have ever eaten....

 

Gruene, TX is small town near New Braunfels, which relies mostly on tourism. Which in turn usually means the restaurants don't care about repeat customers (IME get 'em in, get 'em out is the usual MO). One day we ate at The Grist Mill on an afternoon when the waiting line and wait time were very long. The fresh trout was surprisingly excellent (how many times have you been served overcooked fish?), as were the sides.

If you're ever in San Antonio, TX, I highly recommend Thai Dee Restaurant. It doesn't look like much, a small place, connected to a rundown convenience store, limited parking (the neighboring businesses post No Restaurant Parking signs). The food is excellent. Note--The "spicy" notations on the menu can be misleading. The last time we ate there my wife & I swapped dished about half way through because her noodle dish, not labelled as spicy, was getting to her tastes buds (she's no wimp when it comes to spicy food). My "spicy" dish wasn't that spicy. Another good thing--They don't have a beer & wine license, and will let you BOB, and they'll even provide the glasses, bucket & ice if needed. Think about it, you can enjoy a wine that you like without paying the restaurant mark-up.

We have been twice to a little place here in Ft Lauderdale called ESCARGO BISTRO..best Escargo ever and another dish called Seafood Pasta (can't remember the French)......

This thread reminded me...Best thing I ever Ate...There was a restaurant in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn (NY) LUNDY BROTHERS, used to go with family...they made a LOBSTER NEWBERG that had a LOT of real lobster in it......probably the only thing I ever ordered there....Sadly the restaurant is long gone....
