It's a bit unsettling to see how quickly one can get labeled as "redpill" or "alt-right" for holding opposing viewpoints these days.

Guess it's the new dirty commie.

I always find it interesting when basic human decency and equality are referred to as left wing ideas. No, you fucking Neanderthal. You are regressive.

My personal anecdotes of having been called or seen others be called these labels (or in the same vein) when clearly not applicable would heavily disagree with you, and it may be more common than you think.

 

My experience is that it is more a reflection of concern over what is still a relatively small but growing far right (white) nationalist and neo-Nazi movements in US and throughout Europe that have become more visible and more active as a result of having been emboldened by Trump and other political leaders (who intentionally or not empower these groups then deny their own complicity).

IMO, many of these individuals often are purposefully provocative with the intent of playing the victim when they are verbally “attacked” for their rhetoric of hate, ignorance and intolerance.

While I try not to characterize far right conservatives as alt-right when they do not share the hardline nationalist and racist views, I do suggest that they too embolden their "compatriots" on the right when they remain silent.

 

@redux, while I agree with your assessment that it is more of a reflection of current political sentiments and many far-right supporters hide behind a veneer of reason, it is extremely tiresome when myself and those I know who are hard centrists (European version, not American) get labeled as soon as thoughts/arguments don't conform with someone's personal ideology or preferred narrative.

Try having a discussion with a Trump supporter.

I get labeled as an American-hating elitist socialist /communist or a willing pawn in the "deep state" conspiracy to stage a coup against Trump !

Even Republicans and conservatives who "don't conform with someone's (Trump supporters') personal ideology or preferred narrative" are subject to derogatory labeling and verbal attacks by Trump and his most ardent followers.
