If it works for you that's what counts. If it doesn't don't beat yourself up, AA and similar orgs actually have an abysmal "success rate". What it really boils down to is finding whatever mechanism works for you to keep your life working in a healthy way.

Yeah see to me a spine dislocating or something like that sounds like the sort of thing that needs an ER visit, it sounds like a serious traumatic injury rather than an annoyance.

Ribs and collarbones are my dangerous dislocations thank the Universe all of those are in. My shoulders (and other bits) go out at least a couple of times a week and as long as they don't fall backward ripping muscle and tendon I'll be okay and not go to doctor.

You're asking me to do math.... 9/21/17 was my first day without alcohol.

Evidence suggests that AA combined with cognitive behavioral therapy (which I am also undergoing) has a much better success rate (50%+) than AA alone (5 - 10%).

Additionally, the studies involved only assessed people entering the program for the first time. From what I have observed attending the 11 meetings I've attended, most of those with long term sobriety actually left the program and came back at least once.

Had to pass up ANOTHER potential sublease because it was a roughly 40 minute walk to the nearest bus stop and then a two hour plus ride with a transfer to work. That would have upped my daily commute to six hours out of my day, I would be spending as much time getting to and from work as I do at work. Twelve hours total just to get a six hour paycheck. I already leave at 2pm and get back at almost midnight just to work from 4-10.

As usual there've been several other options that were affordable, could do a 3 month sublet, and were near a major bus line... but as always they're female only. This shit is why 90% of the homeless are men. If I were still working on my thesis or taking classes I would have had to drop out.

It's freaking impossible to survive in this city without a car, or on minimum wage. And the infuriating thing is if I'd had the car I could not only have taken several very affordable sublets in nice neighborhoods, I could also have taken the $14 an hour job out where there's no bus service.

Like I said, what counts is finding a way to make it work for you and not taking any potential hiccups too personally.

I sometimes have a hard time wrapping my head around reality
and the actual events that occur.

Not what I want or even the majority wants...but what happens by circumstance and pure luck.

That being said...How the FUCK in the world does this happen???
    • A good, giving and talented man like Tom Petty dies suddenly at 66
    • And Donald Trump, a Jabba the Hutt clone, keeps surviving and succeeds becoming the American President.

My mom didn't tell me this shit growing up... :(:confused::eek::rolleyes:
In some ways I keep closing my eyes trying to get out of this "bad dream".

Life's a bitch and then you die.
But you gotta keep on anyway. (and please try to be a good person...for our sakes)

Is there a body bitching thread? Bitch, whine, moan. Fuck. The fella was almost broadsided by a big truck today and while we were not hit and everyone is okay, my damn lower spine dislocated again. I'm actually supposed to *gasp* leave the house and do a thing with a group of female friends (and strangers  ) downtown Portland in the morning but not sure if I can do 6 + hours in wheelchair. Fuckity fuck fuck. I'm so weird I'm shocked i was even invited :( , and i really want to go. Please go back in bones, please?

I've had some variation on a headache going on for over a week now. First, hints of migraine. Then, migraine, followed by post-drome. That came with several days of vague dizziness and lightheadedness. Now, a normal headache, but it's day 3 and I'm really tired of it :(:(:(

I posted on faceyspace about trying Peeps again, and still hating them. Didn't complain, didn't say who they were from, just that they're gross.

My mom, who sent them, just texted me "I'm really sorry I forgot you didn't like Peeps. I just thought they were cute :("

...goddamit. Thanks, aunt, or one of 3 cousins who decided to share that with her. That was totally beneficial.

Bright side is a friend of mine is willing to split a room with me since she's also looking for a place only till december, and it either halves our expenses or doubles our collective budget. Downside is we're both still incapable of finding a place that works for us since we both have similar bus requirements. In my case the timer is ticking and if I don't find a place before wednesday night my life becomes vastly less comfortable.

The waitstaff at my restaurant got pissed about spoons the other day, mostly because we didn't have any for some reason. It's kinda like how we have ~10 people on shift, four brooms, and two dustpans but everyone has to sweep a specific section of the restaurant.

I asked one of my bosses about getting a shopvac instead and they said "there's no need to make more work"... A shopvac wouldn't make more work, it would mean one person could clean the whole place in ten minutes flat.

So, I cubed up some asiago and sliced the already sliced cheddar into smaller, cracker-appropriate slices. As I'm writing this, dude comes in and gives me a $25 tip, and now I can't be mad. Damn it.

(I'm starting to get more paranoid about threads that aren't in members-only areas. And I really need to stop posting so much in the thread.)

(and damn it, I was too slow on the edit )

@Shadowex3 , my heart goes out to you my friend. I will hope for you a living arrangement that settles down for several years to come.

If I have what I think I have, I'm going to have to clear my plate and stay home this weekend, which sucks because it's my friend's wedding reception, and she's one of my oldest and closest friends. But I feel like shit.

Well I'm hopefully moving either end of the year or end of next year, and then I've got no idea after that. I just hope I finally get a place stable and safe for the next few months.

It's not what I thought it was, but it's just as bad. I have a sinus infection. The problem is that I'm exhausted but the medication I'm on keeps me wired and I can't sleep my house is so clean right now.
