The US is very different from Trump and the Tea Party/Alt-Right conservatives that want their agenda implemented. There are plenty of people who want that agenda to fail and are doing whatever it takes. And there are plenty of people who are happy that their agenda is getting implemented and Trump hasn't done anything to piss them off yet. I'm friends with one former Air Force guy who wants Trump to attack the left-wing communist/socialist countries of North Korea and Venezuela.

Now, the big question is how will China react, and if they will implement trade sanctions or worse, or if they are too worried about their economy to do anything.

However, it does go to show that Trump is excellent at playing the media and giving them stories that he wants them to talk about to distract for other ones.

Agree. First sabre rattling with North Korea and now Venezuela? Somthing is going on that he wants kept hidden.

I'm curious, what happens to Mueller's investigation in the event of war?

Right wing terrorist plows into crowd of protesters, killing one and wounding others. Trump blames all sides for violence. So sick of this fucking fuckwit. Next stop, nuclear annihilation.

    His response makes me queasy...
"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides," Trump said during a short statement from his private golf club in New Jersey. "It has been going on for a long time in our country -- not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. It has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America."
The President did not mention white nationalists and the alt-right movement in his remarks, and later called for a "study" of the "situation."

Pretty sure 45's going to lob some cruise missiles at at some poor schmucks somewhere not in the US. When he gets belligerent towards a foreign power his polls go up. This Nazi crap that is bubbling up in the US is hurting 45's polls. Time to bomb Venezuela or Panama or wherever. Somebody "safe". Because higher polls mean more to him than being an effective leader.

This current news is so disheartening. But I'm watching tv and a black family is selling allstate insurance. A black father is showing his baby their new house on Zillow where he is going to make him waffles. A black woman and white man are walking into Chase to get a home mortgage. And a guy is letting his husband sleep while he leaves to catch an early morning flight on delta. So shitbag Trump can dogwhistle to racists and Nazis, but big corporations know which way the wind is blowing in America. And it is finally a zephyr, not a stormfront.

Its an interesting story that makes you go "wtf? Whats really going on?", and may be thats the goal.

You can read the original piece here:

    Steve Bannon, Unrepentant

After reading, I thought I'd take a gander at what the comments section read like on this article over at Breitbart and "most" believe its a controlled info release and they feel that Trump and Bannon are brilliant strategists.

Who knows whats really going on, though.

I mean, any house member can file any bill they please. That's how congress works. Congresspersons regularly file bills they don't expect to go anywhere as symbolic gestures. As long as Ryan remains speaker (and on Trump's side) nothing will come of it, but it's a nice gesture.

The interesting thing about the Bannon piece is that it's an insight into his inner thoughts, and it does suggest that he's no fool. Maybe too egotistical for his own good, but not stupid. On the one hand it's reassuring to know that there's at least one functioning adult in the west wing, but on the other hand it's disheartening to know that functioning adult is a repugnant piece of trash.

I will say that I'm not terribly surprised that he dismissed the white nationalists. I don't know what his own beliefs are but I am sure that a chief tenet is "Bannon looks out for Bannon."

I read somewhere that Bannon had been under the impression that the conversation with Robert Kuttner was going to be off the record. So if that's true he might not be too pleased at the results, but it would certainly explain how unguarded he was.

The people he's talking about won't care. Their worldview won't allow them to consider the possibility that this is an honest critique. They'll sooner conclude that it's some kind of 12D chess gambit to trick libtard cucks into... something.

I am entirely convinced that nearly all the big right-wingers in US politics (except for Sarah Palin) are quite intelligent and calculating. Many of them may hold values in line with a lot of their actions, but it seems clear that their first and foremost priority is the advancement of their own career, fame. influence, and wealth. If you have to act like a belligerent buffoon to get there, to them that's a small price to pay.

    Completely agreed.

And they expect Bannon to be the ultimate troll whose sole goal and measure of success is how many leftists are upset and appalled at what he gets the government to do.

I have a feeling that Kelly will push Bannon out, although Bannon will remind Trump that it is his media outlet's followers who are his base. And while it is too bad there is no one on the left willing to call out Bannon like The Mooch did, Bannon is trying to ensure that he is taken care of regardless of what happens.

The problem I worry about is how many more people there are that might not march in the streets for white nationalism, but have the same views and are willing to post on comment boards and forums. That is how it has spread from a small manageable number of people 20 years ago, to now where there isn't a comment section on any left wing article that doesn't have a few conservative trolls in it, let alone on the right wing sites. What we should be discussing is why there are so many racist 20-40 year olds as well. The left has been counting on the older conservatives to die off, but it isn't going to happen anytime soon if the numbers grow and their leaders, media commentators, and politicians come from the 30-55 demographic.

But, that isn't just about Trump. It is why people still support him though.

    Bannon escapes...
"Don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry..." ;) (oops, sorry...that's Banner)

Steve Bannon resigns as White House chief strategist

Actually, he may be lucky in this context...because if they ever go after Trump, he's out of the way of the dragnet more.

Getting fired doesn't seem to have saved Flynn. It won't save anyone else. I would not choose to frame this as an escape, because that suggests that it was intentional on Bannon's part, or that it will remove him from harm in some fashion (it wasn't, and it won't).

I'm starting to wonder if Trump actually knows that the presidency isn't supposed to work like his TV show. Mr. President, you don't have to fire someone every week here. It's okay.

I'm not surprised, though, honestly. I think Bannon thought he was just going to call up Kuttner and get all buddy buddy, and have a pet journalist he could spin information out to when attempting to control the narrative. I think he thought that if he could convince Kuttner that they were ideologically similar enough that Kuttner would agree to this scheme. I think the fact that Kuttner spilled the beans on the whole convo was not part of the plan, and what we're seeing here is a consequence of that. Bannon is too caught up in the image of himself as the Great Manipulator now, and it has done him in as far as his political career goes.

In a broader sense this is problematic for the president, but also for the nation. Breitbart has wasted no time in turning on Trump, already accusing him of "turning into Schwarzenegger." The big question is whether the broader alt-right demographic rallies behind Breitbart (and who/whatever else Bannon can get on his side) or continues to blindly cheer on their God Emperor. I suspect it will be a fracture, and a bit of both.

I'm very concerned that this will lead to more violence. I find myself increasingly convinced that more people are going to be hurt and/or killed before we're done here.

As far as Kelly goes, even Colbert is saying that he's on the outs now. He's clearly proven unable to enforce any sort of real discipline on that madhouse, which was the only reason he was brought in to begin with, so his time in the west wing will also be short I'd wager.
