What books are you reading right now?

Just picked up "Priceless: How I Went Undercover to Rescue the World's Stolen Treasures" by Robert Wittman, founder of the FBI Art Crime Team. Part memoir, part case files of some of the more notable recoveries of stolen artworks.

 

Ooooh that sounds good have to look it up! EDIT: added, that looks damn good

 

I'm partial to anthologies, so no real favorite author per se. World War Z is pretty good. Jumps around a lot but a good read and easy to follow even if you put it down for a while.

I'd get Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide so you'll be ready when the Zombie Apocalypse arrives.

Managed to finish The Jungle this past weekend. Started Notes From The Firehouse: Seventeen Firefighting Stories From A Retired Firefighter by Doug McCourt. Probably gonna start another The Scattered And The Dead book by Tim McBain as well.

 

I used to read Tim McBain they belonged to the parents of one of my high school friends and I read them when I lived with the family. Did pick up a used copy of World War Z and pretty excited though may wait until October as I'm hoping it is at least part horror.

Props to you for finishing the Jungle! Now that you've read it @MrMD069 what are your thoughts on it?

 

@snowy Will you start something else right away, or wait until the mood strikes? Do you read one book at a time?

 

I reread This is Where I Leave You, and then another book by the same author popped up in my recommendations, so I just finished The Book of Joe. The cynicism of Jonathan Tropper's characters has really struck a chord with me lately.

 

Skylight by David Hare crappy book with argumentative pompous ass characters and I'm very glad for it to be over.

Reading

- Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Harari (can get dry at times, but I think that's because its a translation)
- Without Remorse By Tom Clancy (the first Jack Ryan book)
- City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin (third in the Passage series)
- the Universe in Your Hand By Christoph Galfard ( a good cosmological read)
- The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin (neat Chinese Sci fi)
- The Man in the High Castle by Philip Dick ( I wanted to watch the series, so am trying to get through this)


These are all on my ereader/iphone as I travel to work I pick and choose what I feel like reading.

 

Weird ending to the Jungle. The rest of the book was pretty good. I did't realize he was a Socialist. I knew he worked in the Stockyards and the book was instrumental in changing food laws in the U. S. I felt it was a good read.

 

Upton Sinclair is quoted as saying he wanted to show the terrible working conditions in the meat packing industry and how socialism was the solution, instead all people got from the book was how bad their food was.

 

Digging the heck out of "Monsters I Have Known," by Jess Hartley! We've known each other since I was a teen, still pretty sure I would be enjoying this book even if we had never met.

I finished "Look at the Sun", a coming of middle age journey. written by Don Carswell. Great summer book to read and I must say Zen read a lot of it out loud, which made it even more entertaining.

 

Still reading Monsters I Have Known by Jess Hartley and just started Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. After these will be The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.

A good friend of mine wrote this but that is not why I'm reading it or recommending it.
Besides the myths that were built around mammoth bones, the politics that developed around the digs and that are going on even now is pretty fascinating.
John manages to make the science readable and the history interesting.

 

For some reason the link is not working my friend. It does sound interesting though.
