I hope that incident costs United Airlines some major money. If a passenger turns down your buyoff offer for getting bumped, move on to a more receptive passenger. If the reports I heard are correct, the bumping was done to make room for four United Airlines employees; that doesn't look good, even if (IF) the passenger became belligerent before it got physical.

EDIT--Why are airlines allowed to overbook flights? I can sort of understand wanting to fill the seats which become available because of last minute cancellations, no shows, etc. So why not sell a set number of tickets very clearly as Stand By Only/Take Your Chances (all properly handled BEFORE the passenger gets on the plane)?

To anyone who travels frequently: This would make a good thread.

EDIT II: I originally wrote Delta instead of United Airlines. Thanks to @Borla for the correction.

Hopefully it makes Delta money and costs United Airlines money. ;)

Thank you. Yes, United Airlines; why the hell did Delta get stuck in my mind ?

A statement from UA says the four employees were crew members; the reports I first heard didn't specify that. So UA was so greedy or incompetent they didn't allow room for their own flight crew?

And since I rarely travel by plane I'll ask a stupid question: What is Republic Airways to UA?

EDIT--Aha! Delta was mentioned several times in a semi-related/tied-in news report re airlines ratings.

Dude, it was the O'Hare assholes to blame. And every single airline I've ever flown has pulled the overbooking bullshit.
    Every. One.
UA is just another scapegoat. It pisses me off to no end that this shit is being blown out of proportion. ORD security is overzealous and inappropriate.

Watching these teens and preteens cooking on Chopped on the Food Channel really amaze me.
They're using terms like Sous-vide and pan searing, among others.
At that age, I was still have trouble regulating the heat of a cast iron skillet to cook the inside of a burger before the outside was burnt.

    Awesome kids.

Ok, just like there is Rule 34
"If it exists, there is porn of it"

I think we can extend the idea to databases...because there are now databases of anything.
    Why can I claim this???
Because I just found an article describing a database for Fish Poop - Who's Peeing in the Global Pool?

Now, this is for legit reasons...but still...
"If it exists, there is a database for it"

I wonder what Rule # would that be?? ;)

    Now, I love this...because I'm a database specialist.
So I'll have a job available.
    I think I won't retire...

Reminds me of a pic on FB of a single potato chip in a ziploc baggie, inside a big cardboard box.
"The texts between the two people was:
"Did you get the package I sent you?"
"Yeah, but I don't get it."
"It's a chip from Trader Joes!" "They're awesome!"

Well, where to start. A dumbass at work. A competent machinist, running a 3 million $ Grob, a history and reputation that in his two short years there earned him the " hands off " status, was fired, and he deserved it. We all clock in and out using a badge that looks like a credit card with our picture on it. This man linked his home pc to our time management system and was collecting hours while not at work. Yes, clocking in but not coming in. And at the end of the shift clocking out, as if he was there. He was caught when he clocked in on Sunday morning 3am. What a dumbass. Also tomorrow is Good Friday and a paid holiday. The place will be deserted, management wants the 18 most important machines running. Only 6 men agreed to work. It's double time. And I will make number 7.

Yesterday MW & I tackled the hall closet and the closet in our bedroom to clear out old clothing and rearrange the clothing we're keeping. I mostly, say 97%, finished my side. MW got through around 70% of her clothes, she still has a lot of folded clothing to go through.

To put this in perspective we're hoarders, we seriously need to go through our entire house, including the utility room and the garage. What makes our effort yesterday special is we didn't snap at each other too often, and MW (who admits to being a major clothes hoarder) actually pulled a fair number of clothes for donation and the trash.

The test today will be how she handles the folded clothes, many of which have been in the closet for years and will be too small. And then she's supposed to rearrange her clothes by season (our never-really-happened winter is over), and what's suitable for work. We'll see.

Protip - If you usually itemize your tax deductions, keep track of exactly what you donate. Donate every bit that is clean and wearable, even if out of style. Make a list of the specifics; 12 pairs of pants, 18 shirts, 4 pairs of shoes, 2 jackets, etc. The first year I did that, I was amazed at how overvalued each article was when you estimate the tax deduction. If I sold a shirt or pair of pants at a garage sale I'd be doing good to get a $2-3. Tax deduction value? $8-15.
