I can't sleep and have to get up in 4hrs. My mind is reeling tonight, Sandys moved out and slowly ending it with me. And " PURPLE RAIN " by Prince is playing endlessly in my head.

    Sorry about that man.
You could have worse songs going through your head, is about the only positive thing I can think of to say.
I know it's not the life she was hoping for but she is losing a good person by stepping away.

One of my coworkers is supposed to be 75% retired this year. But no. She has been in every day, all day, and she is tying up my boss to the point that the rest of us can't get work done.

I'm currently in the really shitty spot of being too busy yet too broke, and I won't get paid again for a few weeks.

I've just been asked to run my analysis through this website: ArrayAnalysis.org
problem is, the website is buggy and won't work.
So they've asked me to download the program and run it off my computer.
The problem is... there is no program to download. There's source code. For R. I despise R.

    someone please shoot me.

Woke up this morning with a bitch of a head cold, which means that yesterday when I thought it was my allergies acting up I was probably infecting all of my co-workers.
Staying home today and feeling sorry for myself.

My current accounts receivable would basically cancel out my current accounts payable, but the accounts payable are due a couple of weeks before the accounts receivable are due. Fingers crossed? This August was the worst month ever.

Perhaps you could use your charm ;) and good looks ;) to get paid sooner?

If that fails, put your martial arts skills to good use . Of course that could be negated by bail bonds, attorney fees, & court costs.

Seriously, what you mentioned are the drawbacks to being self-employed.

You could try offering a discount for prompt payment. 2%/10 or 2%/10EOM might bring in the money a little quicker. Or, maybe you would get paid and someone else would have to wait. Our family business always paid vendors offering a quick pay discount first.

Or, if you have the pricing power to do so, quote higher prices to those of your clients that are perpetually late payers.

My coworker: amazing how the kids who were jerks are still jerks...

Me in my head: Maybe it's your perspective...

    So very true!
Cynicism is so unattractive on people.
How is your new school year, @snowy? Catch us up elsewhere? (Noticed the name of this thread--kinda gloomy.)

Tried getting DirecTV to lower my bill substantially. I'm not under contract and pay way too much for TV shows that I can often watch on Netflix, Amazon, or other online providers. The only "hook" for me is live sports, which are more difficult to get in high quality, legally, without a TV subscription of some sort. Though he offered some discounts (HBO for about 1/3 of current cost, $10-15 off my monthly channel package), the main attraction they were pushing was more channels. They even offered the NFL Sunday Ticket for free, which used to be only available free to new subscribers ($320-350 cost normally, IIRC). Then they wanted to throw in a bunch more channels for free that I'd almost never watch.

The final "best deal" he offered was basically $20/month off, with a ton more access to sports. I was pushing for $40-50/month off. When he didn't budge, I let him set a cancellation date. From what I hear, calling back a few days or a week later sometimes motivates them to sharpen their pencil a touch, and I have a month to play with before they actually turn off my account. I'd have probably compromised if he went another $10-15/mo off and offered to upgrade my oldest current box.

    We'll see.

You're having a good day, then BAM...
You run into your Ex In-Laws while you're friggin' shopping for food at CostCo.

WTF...they live 45 minutes away by highway.
Why the hell were they there??
Why the hell should I meet them there just then?
It's not like the whole Baltimore-DC-Annapolis region isn't big enough??? :(

If anything, this just proves my "Anchored Causality" theory more...
But this is NOT how I want it shown to me, dammit.
    Not fair.

They were polite, but so what!
