I took a quick look at the cowgirls' schedule, it looks pretty soft. Hopefully they will be as bad this season as their record last year indicates (an awkward sentence that makes sense if you think about it).

My guess is the Seahawks will be back this season without stumbling like last season. But I haven't checked their schedule.

I would like to see Miami make it to the play offs. Changes in the coaching staff should make a difference. Vikings are always my team and I don't even know why. Just picked 'em one day years ago. Panthers have Mr. Newton ( that man, if he stays alive and out of prison, will go down in history as one of the greats. ) Dallas was my Dads team. I truly can't tolerate that crew. So I will be watching The Dolphins and Minnesota this year.

I can see several scenarios for Manziel.

Overdose. Chances are he's still in good physical shape and he's only 22, which means he can probably withstand fair amount of substance abuse.

Prison, or at least jail. I can see him winding up in jail. I don't see it helping him.

Car crash. If he doesn't get a handle on his partying, my guess is he's going to wind up severely injured or killed in a car crash.

Sobriety. At this time that seems highly (nice play on words!) unlikely.

I can't keep up on all the players, personal of professional life. Is it possible this year that Dallas will make a change in the QB? I think that needs to be done if J.J. wants to break the complacent attitude in his organization.

I don't see jackass jerry benching romo. It's interesting that you listed jackass jerry, not garrett the HC, as the one to make that decision (and that's totally accurate). Only when--not if-- romo again gets injured the 'girls might make a permanent change at QB.

How does everyone feel about the draft?
I think the Bills had their best draft in years.
Two, maybe 3 starters on defense in the first 3 rounds. Exactly in the positions they needed.
And a project of a QB with great upside potential.

I will say, in terms of the D, that now Rex Ryan better put up or shut up.
    They hired his brother.
They used their first 3 picks on the defense.
    We need to see results.

I like the Texans' focus on adding some fire to the offense. There were three good (potentially very good) receivers on the board. I don't know of the Texans chose the right one in Fuller, but Deandre Hopkins seriously needs some help to take the pressure taken off of him.

The downside is I think their defense line could've used another player capable of at least getting into the backfield to help disrupt plays. But that might be moot if Clowney stays healthy and takes the NFL seriously. And Mercilus appears to be stepping up his game considerably.

Rob Ryan didn't simply fall on his face in New Orleans. He first climbed to the to the top of the Superdome, then dove face first from the top. I don't know enough about football to know if he's for real, or has been getting by on his last name. Is he worthy, or is his twin brother taking a chance?

NOTE--So what's in a name....such as Ryan? Rob Ryan was hired almost immediately after being fired by the cowgirls, five days "with" the Rams, then on to the Saints. Wade Phillips had to sit out a year before Kubiak got a HC position and hired him. Ryan ran one of the best NFL defenses in '13, then ran one of the worst in '14 & '15. Phillips ran a defense that for all intents got the Broncos into the playoffs and won the Superbowl.

For guys who want Romo benched I'd ask this. What QB is a) proven to be better and b) reasonably available?

Look at the QBs who have been signed as free agents so far this year, who have been traded for, or who are available. Is there really ANY of those guys you think is clearly better than Romo, based on anything more than "but I'm tired of Romo being hurt/not winning/Jerry Jones being an idiot"?

That's basically the problem faced by the 20 or so teams who would love an upgrade at QB. The guy they want just doesn't exist, or isn't anywhere near proven yet.

There is a reason Osweiler got a fortune, RGIII and Kaep are still getting chances, Bradford and Fitzpatrick think they can name their own terms..............it is because there are only about 6-8 guys on the face of the earth who can actually lead your team to a Super Bowl victory without an overwhelming supporting cast.

romo has been a yo-yo, even without recent injuries, but yes he is the best QB has the 'girls have, and there is a clear lack of available top-notch QBs. I can understand the frustration of 'girls fans (and very much enjoy it!). The more the fans get frustrated the better the back-up QB looks.

@Borla, who are the 6-8 QBs you believe to be capable of winning the SB without an overwhelming supporting cast?

Off the top of my head I can only think of four, and even they need help in order to be effective. Wilson, Rodgers (who isn't getting any younger), Newton, & Luck (IMO he still needs to prove that he can win games late in the game).

Brady. In part because Bellichik is a genius.

Oops. I should've included Brady, which would make my list four, possibly five.

Wilson, Rodgers, Brady, Newton, & possibly Luck. With a little more thought.....I suppose Roethlesberger could make the list ahead of Luck, and Eli Manning deserves a spot even though he's also a yo-yo.

Edit--Of the seven, I only see Brady & Rodgers as QBs who have consistently shown the ability to pull out late wins in close games. OTOH a QB who puts up a lot of points early and his team has decent defense doesn't need to rely on late game heroics.

Obviously any QB needs decent support. He's got to have a guy or two on each side of the ball that is a game changer. But here are the guys I think can be the main component, as opposed to also needing a top defense or a well rounded and elite offensive crew along with them (i.e. without "overwhelming support"):

    Brady
    Rodgers
    Newton
    Roethlisberger
    Luck
    Wilson

I'm assuming good health for those guys, obviously. Close behind them are a handful of "maybe" guys, or guys you could argue depending on if they have one more good season left, or a few other things fall right for them:

    Rivers
    Brees
    E Manning

That's nine guys. I'd say that 4-6 of them are hard to argue against. Several of them are definitely in the category that you could argue against. Maybe you throw one or two more guys on the list with an argument? Either way, the main point is that there are definitely a minority of teams that feel great at QB. And in the perspective of a Romo/Cowboys argument, I'd say they really aren't in too bad of shape for the short term. Romo isn't a top 3-5 QB, but he also isn't a bottom half QB either. The point I've tried to make several times is that 20ish teams want an upgrade, and you could say the Cowboys could use one. But the guy who is both clearly better and reasonably available doesn't really even exist in today's NFL. I mean, look at that list above. EVERY SINGLE GUY other than Brees (whose team change was driven as much by injury as anything else) has stayed with the same team since his first game. Once a team has a reasonably good QB (say top 10-14?) they don't get rid of him until he's old or hurt. There are really, really few exceptions to that rule anymore. So either draft a QB or live with what you have.

Without looking at & comparing QB stats....I wonder if Luck is the real deal, or if he's in the spotlight because he replaced P. Manning and/or the Colts are pretty much automatically expected to be a consistently good team.

I don't read a lot of sports articles, but have seen quite a few comments about the lack of available top QBs in the NFL, and it seems that no QB in the '16 draft got any team that excited.

"...So either draft a QB or live with what you have."
Or do what the Texans did--Sign an unproven back-up from another team for nearly 8M a year guaranteed for four years.

I think Luck has the potential, last year he did poorly in large part due to injuries. Some were more severe than anyone knew at the time. But I do think he needs to prove that this year to stay in that category. My $.02.

And correct on the Texans. Your only other option is to take a chance on someone. I can't really remember the last time a team picked up a guy who started a season or so elsewhere and ended up turning him into an elite QB. I'm sure it has happened, but I can't think of anyone in the last 5-10 years? Barring of course Brees, which I throw out because his move was due to the Chargers (and other teams who looked at him) feeling his shoulder was wrecked.

IF the Titans manage to put together a decent team, on both sides of the ball, what do you think of Mariota?

I'm a die hard Oregon Ducks fan, so of course I love him. :p

In reality, I think he has the potential to be a very good QB. Not sure if he can be great, but I think he can be a winner. The part that worries me is if he has to/chooses to run too much. His speed is a real and valuable threat, but I don't want my starting QB to take those open field hits. I worry about his knees in those situations. I also think he's a pretty high character guy, which is a especially a benefit in a QB.

I did a quick search, didn't find any news that Manziel has turned himself in to the authorities in Dallas. Compared to legal issues that are crushing, a misdemeanor assault charge isn't that big*, but Manziel needs to face the music. It would behoove him to cooperate fully......like showing up well before the deadline.

Bond set for Johnny Manziel, who has to turn himself in by May 5 - CBSSports.com
