You are making a sacrifice, and giving your grandson a fair shot at a "normal" life. It's a noble and honorable thing you are doing, I salute you.

You are also teaching your grandson (and all of us) an important lesson in priorities.

I hate the fact that I'm edgy for no good reason.

Everything is friggin' done and handled, nothing bad is going on.
Just my damn body playing with me.

Time to head to the gym or go biking...get the edge off.
But I don't want to go.

waa, waa, waa, waa, waa...

hmm...maybe it's the stuff going on with my friend that's playing with my head subconsciously.
it comes in waves...had a moment at work the other day, had to pull myself together.
    Don't know. just surreal.

my woes at the moment are nothing to yours @popeye
your family is lucky to have a man like you.
just remember to take care of yourself too.

My Sociology professor is a grammar Nazi.

Friggin' just the silliest comments marked down on my paper.
    The content...excellent.

My font incorrect, Arial instead of Times New Roman (which is not what the guide said...and different than the previous classes)
My font size in my reference, 10 instead of 12...which is what the Word utility put in.
All paragraphs should have at least 3 sentences - opening, supporting, conclusion.

Ahh...and oh yes, don't forget...I started two sentences with the same word. "The"

But is she a Correct Grammar Warrior?;)

I tend in the grammar Nazi direction, but usually only in my own work. Sometimes I rewrite a few times, trying to be correct, but I'm so imperfect myself that I could never be a real fanatic about what I see in others' work.

Well, to communicate...I do try to apply correct spelling and grammar. (in papers, not here...sorry folks)
But the items don't affect how it comes across or distracts.

What was mentioned was minor, at best.

I'll adjust accordingly...but there is only one more paper for this class.
And I didn't see anything that would have warned me about the particularities for the first. (unless they have an anonymous student site, rating and noting the teachers quirks and desires)
But I don't care about GPA...I just want a piece of paper...so I don't waste my time on minutia.

I do care about the quality of my info and content. I take pride on giving meat and grilling it right. (not where the parley goes or what plate)

I'm not mad, just rolling my eyes about what I think is petty and irrelevant.

Guess what? Sure I'm going to adjust the damn font to what she wants. Easy fix.
But the rest, fuck it...I've got better things to worry about. (like my irrational anxieties about doing the paper in the first place...you have no idea how that affects me...I just want to get thru it)

I'd have gotten my paper handed back to me immediately with Arial. Just a thought, you can change the auto settings in Word so you don't have to think about those things in the future. I have mine set to APA formatting, down to a single space after a period. It sucks, but if you're ever going to do any writing for work of any kind, building those habits now will take you far. People notice. Way more than you may think. Fonts, sizes, formatting...

Actually, I had it on APA formatting...but the last class wanted Arial.
Double space after period. This is different now, the guide said Arial. (the one she referred to)
    Whatever, I'll adjust.

I write constantly. IT/technical and govt (specs, white papers, guides, etc...)
I'm very aware of what they absorb and see...presentation is important to me, I don't want distractions from the material.
They often don't use TNR, mostly it's always Calibri, Arial or Courier New, size 10,11...12 is for titles...but any clear professional font is accepted, even size 8 for cramped areas.
    Content is king.

Even the national websites and govt papers are moving away from TNR. (including NIST)
Margins are often narrow, 0.5" (unless there is a header and footer, then that's top & bottom)

This has been true in several environs and gigs.
IMHO, scholastic is old school. They've got to move with the times. (or at least the pace of business, which I live.)

But again, I'll adjust...same ol' story, every teacher is different. I always get pinged on the first unless someone has given me the scoop. It's the game.

I have no preference as to TNR or Calibri. Personally, I prefer Calibri in my own work, and I find sans serif fonts easier to read if I'm reading a number of papers. I would let students have the choice, but future academic preference is still TNR, so TNR is taught. 1" margins, 1 space after a period, double spaced, header on top left, DO NOT UNDERLINE YOUR OWN TITLE, and I am Ms., not Miss or Mrs. I hand papers back for corrections if they do not match my formatting guide.

By the way, @rogue49, I told one of my classes your conundrum today. The horrified looks on their faces! Priceless.

    Edited to add:

A paragraph should contain: your topic sentence (introduction), evidence, and your analysis of the evidence ("This means that"). A well-structured paragraph also contains a sentence that serves as a connector to the next.

People need to get over their inferiority complexes...

Not everything someone shares with you is about making you feel less about yourself or them feel better about themselves.
Often it's just info and background for the story...not dropping names or boasting.

Like the way writers describe a scene.

People who like to cover their own asses and their incompetence don't understand the impact that their lies have on others. My appeal was denied because of lies. And I have no recourse. Fuck this shit.
