Rare Car Sightings

Someone at the building where I worked had a Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. I don't normally care for black paint on cars, but this car was totally sexy hot. It had the rear air wing which looked great (as opposed the way-too-common aftermarket kit ones) and huge rear tires.

A story I've told before (sue me). I was walking through a parking garage and stopped to watch three guys, one driving, two guiding him, trying to back a brand new red Ferrari (I have no idea which model, it was a large one) out of a tight parking space. Whoever parked it squeezed it into a very tight space (mistake two). They also chose a spot where there was a car directly behind him, think something like this [---- (mistake three). After five minutes of suppressing laughter I had to leave, and they still hadn't gotten out of the parking space. There were around 10 people watching them. I hope that the driver felt like an idiot.

Oh yes, mistake one was even thinking parking a brand new Ferrari in a crowded parking garage with narrow parking spaces.

 

That's a pretty serious amount of work. Notice the turbocharger mounted to the engine.

 

Hellcat challenger. 707 horsepower. Been sitting in our delivery bay for several weeks. The guy who ordered it is overseas in the military. He bought it directly from the factory through the military buying program, so he avoided any dealer markup.

 

Not a car sighting, but I was watching the RM auction last night and I found the prices these car were "selling" for beyond belief

 

When I was a kid the Mopar muscle cars got my attention because my dad was a dedicated Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge guy, and Mopar pretty much ruled NASCAR back then. I am shocked at the prices Mopar muscle cars bring these days.

So much for my dream of owning an all original '71 Challenger convertible with a 440 six-pack and all of the factory performance goodies.

From what I can tell, the big money in vintage collectible cars is matching numbers, original parts, etc. For some exotic cars--I'm thinking Rolls Royce--the service records from authorized dealerships makes a huge difference.

Building a cool driver is another story. Some of the guys at the Stock Car Club of America GTGs would do that. They tried to be as vintage correct as possible, but having a driver was the main goal.
