Did we see the same movie?

I was gratified to see a woman kick ass in a scifi film.

No, she kicked ass...and don't get me wrong I'm pro woman. Her character/personality didn't stand out to me.
Like I loved Charlize Theron's warrior Imperator Furiosa in the new Mad Mad, she was the movie, just awesome...and the guy that played Mad Max was just another actor. (not bad, just not distinct...he blurs into the plot)

To me a woman that kicked ass in a scifi film AND was distinct was Ripley in Alien or LeLu in The Fifth Element. Both I love. remember and drew me in.

The few stand out moments that Daisy Ridley's Rey had for me was when she was "instinctively" and humorously fixing The Falcon (and annoying Han)
She's got some comedic chops...they need to allow her stand out rather than just move the plot along or be a love-interest incentive. Give her better lines and emotional range.
She wasn't bad...I enjoyed her as a part of the movie...but it just blurred, not distinct.
Actually I wish they kicked it up a notch personality-wise for her in the final fight. (same goes for Adam Driver in that scene, IMHO)

I'm just thanking god no one was a whiny prequel Anakin...I wanted to jump in the movie and throttle him.

I was debating this myself, although my first thought when the mask came off was, "Andy Samberg?!" (I'm not attracted to Andy Samberg.) I think I like him better scruffy than Star Wars-y.

Kylo Ren is obviously the love child of Faramir, Steward of Gondor, Prince of Ithilien, Lord of Emyn Arnen, and Jon Snow, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.

Kylo Ren's nose is bigger than that.

I spend a lot of time studying noses.

I have a friend who works for Disney in South East Asia and he's been involved in releasing the film here. The numbers are lower than management wanted. It's still only the fifth strongest film of all time in this part of the world. Star Wars doesn't resonate here the way it does in the West.

I posted this on FB over the weekend. The review is the best answer to much of the bloody negativity that seems to pass for film reviewing these days (or "journalism" in general). I think we all have questions after watching the film, but that's not a bad thing considering it's a trilogy. So many link bait articles are doused in negativity as a way to get clicks. It sucks.

Having now watched the film twice, I am actually a lot happier with what I saw than I was after the first screening (and I was generally happy then).

Yeah, I want to see it again to when I get the chance...there's just so much going on so fast.
I find with these kind of movies you get more with each viewing.
It's not just a blur...excuse me, "rush"

Just saw it a second time...actually saw more detail, got into the lines more...it was even better. Excellent.

But my assessment of Rey was still the same.
They need to give her more flavor.

IMHO, it was all Finn and Han.
This I know was kind of a "reboot", a setup/intro and honorarium...I hope it gets meaty in the next one...really bring out some personalities
Including Luke & Leia...both Hamill and Fisher have great character acting chops and fire...let it fly. :D
