Food What's For Dinner Tonight?

    Heck yes DAKA. That sounds like my kind of meal. I've only recently found Jasmine rice and won't go back to anything else (as far as white rice goes). Jasmine rice folks. I'm out right now and can't remember the brand but it was from Louisiana.

    I threw together what we had ready to go; no HBE in the fridge. Also I can take or leave HBE on a salad.

    Yesterday we tried a new slow cooker recipe, Smoky Barbecued Beef Brisket. I'm not going to type out the recipe, it's from the cookbook Better Homes and Gardens Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes. It turned out really well, even though we had to substitute one ingredient, used some Siracha sauce in place of (we-didn't-have-any) cocktail sauce.

    With baked potatoes, and lima beans. And fresh baked bread (my wife was on a cooking kick yesterday).

    Went to iPic to see Spectre; had pulled pork grilled cheese with sweet potato fries. Yum!

    BBQ pork, gouda, pepper relish, grain mustard aioli on lightly crisped texas toast.

    Listen to me, I sound like I'm on the food channel....

    But it was damn good!

    Soup's On... Maryland crab soup for me, clam chowda and a roast beef and jarlsburg sammich, open-faced with L, T, and horseradish mayo for the man. I made a quick batch of chicken salad with chopped cornichons, celery, and green onions, organicville yellow mustard and vegan aide to munch on with some GF crackers. And a glass of Garnet pinot. Happy.

    We don't buy much soup already made. It's easy to make from scratch, and I always have like 3 different kinds of soups and chili in the freezer. Tonight I'm not cooking though.

    I didn't ever before. But $6 a pint (2 servings for me) and varieties that I wouldn't normally make. Things that I can't make (allergic to clams, can't do dairy, can't taste these things)... Plus, it's ready-made. I'm terrible with meat-soups as I tend to overcook the meat, except in my chili.

    Yeah, my homemade soup comes in at less than a dollar per quart. One of the areas where we try to save money is by cooking more at home. We don't do dairy based soup because it doesn't freeze well.
