I started with less skills. Basically I could unplug, move, and replug the machines, without breaking them. Got a temp job doing that for 3 months, the company kept me for most of a year and had me doing basic troubleshooting (hint, excel and powerpoint skills) and that then led me to start applying for computer work.... I could spell Unix when I got my state gov't job, so they put me in that group. Luckily they still had training budgets at that time. The rest is (sad) history.

Ha ha, you were the one that had zip ties and a small tarp or something in your bag of tricks that was going to be utilized to create a transport device for the geese to get you back to your vehicle.

Should have included a link to a helpful picture or Wikipedia entry. Goliath was the name of the Semi truck, KARR was the earlier prototype. From Wikipedia:
"KARR is the prototype version of KITT, originally designed by Wilton Knight and built by his company Knight Industries. Upon completion of the vehicle, KARR's CPU was installed and activated. However, a programming error made the computer unstable and potentially dangerous. The project was put on hold and KARR was placed in storage until a solution could be found.

Unlike KITT, whose primary directive is to protect human life, KARR was programmed for self-preservation, making him a ruthless and unpredictable threat. ".......
He ends up going in the water when Micheal tells KITT to play a game of chicken knowing that KARR will swerve first. Of course he came back again later despite this being less likely than KARR still running after being buried in a sand dune.

Speaking of tv shows that are completely accurate...
If I buy a 1969 Dodge Charger will I be able to make 100+ foot jumps with barely a bump on the landing and no damage to the axles or frame?

edit: Just read more of that wikipedia page and I mixed up the sequence of events, KARR is intially found stored in a warehouse. Like I said before, that was top of my head information.

No, I tried it a few times with my black GMC van.

    ...it never works out.

  9. .38spl or .9mm; which in your opinion is more practical for CPL?

This is a revolver vs. automatic debate, I assume? Automatic. If you're smart enough to operate a car, you're smart enough to operate an automatic pistol.

They're way simple and give you better control (ergonomics), better capacity (with a faster reload) and are easier to carry and conceal (smaller, lighter).

    Example: S&W .38 vs. Kahr 9mm

At least in GMC Van you can fire semi-automatic rifles at cars chasing you at highway speeds and hit their their tires 11 out of 10 times. I hear it is the the red stripes that make it impossible for them to hit you at any distance, either that or they went to the same "Bad Guys/Goons weapons handling class" that trains the stormtroopers.

This brings up a good point: you should never fire from the hip as a bad guy. It only works for Determined Heroes (TM), specifically Machine Gun-Toting Lone Determined Heroes in Baby Oil (TM). See: Commando. Predator. Rambo II.

Based on my rudimentary knowledge of the topic, literary novels involve a lot of investment in time to get inside characters. Like The Count of Monte Cristo. It's basically like reading the personnel files of people that have 15 names/titles and how they're all related. You expect to see the characters develop and change... from youth to adult or angry to forgiving or whatever.

Genre novels are more about the action, right? The characters are pretty fixed and the plot is the vehicle and it's moving fast. This is where you get your James Patterson, your Tom Clancy and other guys that should never delve into creating anything beyond their two-dimensional heroes and sex scenes so awkward they stifle even teenage boys.

Based on that definition, I tend to like the "superficial fluff" of genre novels because so few characters captivate me as stand-alone entities. I want to see these people going places, doing things.

That and my life is a bit of a genre novel: I've been the same douchebag forever.

Personalized guns, how do you feel about them?

And how do you feel about the people who threaten to kill anyone who tries to sell them?

How do you feel about Lee Childs and the Jack Reacher series, since we're almost still on the topic? I find him surprisingly accurate regarding the military and forces-that-be, of the stories aren't a little "out there".
