I think the Cowboys lost because they SUCK. My opinion might be biased... a little.

  3. The Cowboy coaching staff gets a lot of the "credit" for what happened. It started when they passed up a chip shot field goal and got stuffed at the goal line. Not running the ball (and clock) when they had the big lead was another big mistake. Declining that penalty and leaving the Lions in field goal position late in the game was just a gift. Thanks, fellas!

The Lions were good enough to take advantage, but they will have to start playing better first-half football if they're going anywhere this season.

  4. Well Bears and Lions next Monday. We'll see if the newly reclaimed Bears running game will stick around or if Martz will go back to his pass happy offense. I'm thinking, the Bears will continue running the ball. But who knows with this coaching staff.

  5. That game should reveal a lot about both teams.

my colts play tonight. im glad to see painter get the start over collins (i know hes hurt) but i was pretty pissed when they signed collins to a 2 year 2 mil contract instead of giving painer a chance. i mean he knows the offense and you dont have to cram it in his head in 3 weeks.

was glad to see my lions and falcons win as well

  7. I'm not putting a lot of faith in the Colts, but I think this is a good lesson for the coaching staff. They need to learn how to build a team around all players, not just the quarterback. Of course their defense needs work too....No Bullit or Bracket for the rest of the season.

Yeah I just don't see the Colts doing much the entire rest of the season. They've just put to much on one guy and without him they're simply lost. I think TB wins tonight by a touchdown.

It's the game I look forward to the most this next week. If the Lions can beat the Bears, even at home, I'd see that as a true test of their strength. If they win I plan on partying it up good after the game.

  9. I don't think the Colts would be that good even with Manning healthy. Lots of weaknesses on that team.

Tonight's game is looking more like a football game then I expected.

Initially, I agreed with you. However, after watching some recaps, I think that the refs got this one right and have been screwing it up in the past. It is obvious that the Giants player did not "fumble"; he considered the play to be over and simply left the ball on the field. The rule states "An official shall declare dead ball and the down ended . . . when a runner is out of bounds or declares himself down by falling to the ground and makes no effort to advance."

I remember the same thing happening in a Patriots game last year when the opponent receiver (fresh out of college) caught the ball, went to the ground, and left the ball on the ground because he assumed that the play was over. Instead, the Pats recovered. In retrospect, the referees should have reversed that turnover.

I think this is similar to the Tuck Rule; seems strange, but that's the way it was written.

I agree with Redlemon - it was a hurry-up offense, and he clearly was thinking about the clock. He could have advanced the ball and didn't. The refs got it right. That said, if the end of the half or game isn't approaching, the same play probably correctly gets ruled a fumble.

That's kind of the point. That rule has far too much leeway in respect to interpretation. You're either down or your not.

I don't see the leeway. Either he was trying to advance the ball or he wasn't. Clearly he wasn't.

It has to do with interpreting intent. It was obvious that the Giant's player intended to down it. With the clock running out, it's easier to determine that intent. That's my point.
