One of my favourite breakfasts is some fine liverwurst with herbs spread on swedish crispbread and then some cheddar cheese. Open face sandwich. Soooo yummy.

All time favourite sandwich would be a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich with yellow mustard. Pickles on the side.

I like meat sandwiches, I really do.

Pastrami, roast beef, turkey, ham and bacon... as the great Chopper (Australia) said: YUMM-EY!

But you guys take that stuff to a completely different level. The hell is it with a pound of meat between two slices of bread?

^ totally agree. Even though I have very fond memories of the hot babes and good bars in Montreal, the thing I miss most is the smoked meats.

I used to refuse to eat Montreal Smoked Meat anywhere but in Montreal. I used to travel there every 4 - 5 weeks on business but since I switched jobs almost 3 years ago I've not been back.

Where can I get my fix preferably in Mississauga or in Toronto?

Did you try the market? I mean the St Lawrence Market...

Okay, I tried some liver sausage. (I think it's like liverwurst. it's by Oscar Mayer, and says authentic Braunschweiger liver sausage.)

It wasn't bad, but it tasted better when I put some Louisiana hot sauce on it.
I'm looking for some liverwurst next.

I'm very rarely in that area, will have to make a trip though. I need my fix.

    Wurst = German for sausage.

But I have to be careful what to say about it, because every region in Germany has their very own recipe for almost all dishes/foodstuffs. It might very well be that it's not what I was talking about.

    Was it like this:

I love cheese. Grilled swiss on rye is one of the most amazing combinations in the world.

It was the bottom one. The one that looks like a pale turd. :)

You know, now that I've had a chance to ruminate on the taste a little longer, it reminded me of potted meat I've had in the past. Deviled Ham, or meat products like it.
It wasn't what I was expecting.
    I thought it'd be more liver-y tasting.

Anyway, my second go around at eating it, I sliced up an onion and ate the liverwurst on the toast topped with onions and mustard, with the hotsauce on top once in a while.
    It was a better experience.

Yeah, that was proper liverwurst then.

Tastes can vary, though. If one disappointed you, another may be better.

I swear by the Rügenwälder liverwurst. My favourite!

Lately, I've been enjoying sandwiches with fried marinated tempeh. In general, though, I find sandwiches are all about the fixings.

The sandwich really is a perfect invention.

I just can't eat tempeh. I've tried it a number of times but it just doesn't do it for me.

I am currently eating a sandwich made with fresh French bread, head cheese, goat's cheese and washed down with a nice French wine (perhaps too much wine). Being in France has it's benefits!

Head cheese, mate? Really? Head cheese?!

We Germans have our own version, and it doesn't taste better than the French version.

At least I hope you get some better French cuisine while over there. Enjoy the trip!

It all comes down to the quality of the bread, really. Good, fresh bread and you can put almost anything in it. Chicken, bacon and mayo is good. Or prawns and mayo. Or..

The Oscar Mayer liverwurst is okay. It's not my favorite. I will look at the grocery store to see if I can find the one I grew up with. I am also struck with the sudden desire to check out the upscale grocer in town and see what their options are.

I thought you're a vegetarian. If you're not, cook up a goddamn steak at home once or a while!

May be my wrong impression from the "What's For Dinner?" thread.

My husband is a vegetarian, so I generally don't cook meat in the house.
