I am officially supporting Bernie Sanders. He is the first candidate I can recall in years whom I might actually vote for on his merits, rather than simply being the lesser of two evils. Still not holding my breath for him to actually get the nomination. But willing to try and help him do it.

Yep, I feel the same way about Bernie.
I wish he had a chance at all to win.
I remember my grandfather talking about voting for Eugene Debs three times.
I think my grandfather would have voted for Bernie.

I'm pretty sure I actually shouted "YES!" the instant I saw he was legitimately running. He's the first real liberal candidate I've seen in a long time, and unlike Obama he's not going weaksauce on either the left or the right. I mean you don't get much more hardcore than flat out calling the american government so corrupt that it needs mandatory public funding (and only public funding) for elections.

I think he's decided that since he has no real chance of winning, especially once Hillary goes full tilt on the femsploitation angle, he's going to spend the entire primaries making everyone else uncomfortable as hell.

Any alternative to Hillary is a welcome alternative.

Hillary Clinton is the very best Republican candidate the Democrats have ever put up for election.

If Bernie Sanders decides to take the public funding option for the primaries, he will be around for awhile.

Hillary certainly wont take that option, given the limitations it puts on overall fund raising, and I suspect the top tier Republican candidates (who want big corporate donations) wont either.

Sooo anyone want to start a betting pool on whether he'll somehow be "implicated" in something awful like child pornography or if they'll just assassinate him?

I'm pretty sure it's going to be the "lets laugh at the crazy old man" technique that is often used when older folks have stopped giving fucks and started speaking truth to power.
No need to implicate him in anything if you can belittle and sideline him.

But what if the public actually agrees with him?

In 1989 capitalism triumphed over communism, by the 2000s it defeated democracy as well in legislative elections. Who's to say presidential elections aren't next. I'm obviously not a fan of the guy but just look at how Ron Paul gets treated by the media.

Every single American that is genuinely informed about his platform could instantly be 100% converted to supporting him and he would still lose by a landslide if he gets universally no-platformed or a false narrative is created about his campaign. The media today is perfectly comfortable printing outright and easily provable lies about something that offends their sensibilities or threatens their interests.

Maybe it isn't capitalism that won, but the media/propaganda machine that won and became very powerful.

Perry just went live with his 2016 web site. I think that make 11 my count.

I honestly think her best shot was '08. Which was a big swing and a miss. I don't think US voters are that likely to vote in a candidate on their second or even third run.

Really? I can think of three counterexamples off the top of my head:

    (1) Nixon was nominated in 1960 and defeated, nominated again in 1968 and won.

    (2) Reagan was narrowly defeated for the nomination in 1976, nominated and elected in 1980.

    (3) George H.W. Bush was defeated for the nomination in 1980, ended up as vice-president, and was nominated and elected in 1988.

Ok, that's three. Now think about all the people who make multiple runs and never get closer to the oval office then a White House tour. Folks like Romney, Perry, Santorum, Huckabee. To me Hilary is stating to look like a modern Ted Kennedy.

    So here's my question:

With SO MANY in the GOP field, I boil it down to two options.

    1) There is no candidate that the GOP string-pullers can rally behind and push ahead of the crowded field. Over a dozen options, and they don't like any of them.

    OR

    2) It doesn't matter AT ALL who the GOP nominee is, as the GOP string-pullers will get what they want out of any of them.

I would add multi-loss major party nominees William Jennings Bryan, (three time loser) Thomas E. Dewey, Adlai Stevenson, to Tully's list.

Obviously I meant Ted not Ed Kennedy, my bad.

Don't you think that's true with the Dem's as well?
