Probably not up to Stan's high standards, but I got a good deal on them. I'm pretty pleased so far, but I've only owned them for about an hour.

They're Sennheiser HD 449s. I was looking at HD 598s initially but decided that I didn't want to splash that much out on flashy headphones right now. The only downside I've found so far is that the impedance is high enough that my smartphone has trouble driving them, but to be honest that's not a major drawback. I have ear buds for commuting already anyway.

Went to TCAF today. Scored this:

Word is it's like Fables but with Shakespeare instead of fairy tales. We'll see if it's good.

I bought a comic last weekend at a used book store. Came with an inscription to some guy named Bruce. I assumed it was from a girlfriend. The store owner told me that I could have the book signed today by the artist at TCAF. Turns out the original signature was from him as well.

Hobby stuff... New Black Halo Racing ignition coil set and NRK laser-iridium spark plugs/racing wires for my RX-8, which probably means absolutely nothing to most of you, but here are some pretty pictures in any case...

And, nerdy stuff for my computer, a new motherboard - ASUS Maximus Gene V SLI-equipped Micro-ATX Z77 chipset with huge overclocking potential.

And a new nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB SuperClocked

Sennheiser have always been my "go to" headphones. At the moment, their top of the line headphones (700 & 800) have a edgy treble that I don't like and I'm listening to Beyerdynamic, instead.

The 598, 600, & 650's are very nice (and high impedence).

With all due respect, it doesn't look like your size.

As much as I like the look of 700s and 800s I don't think I'll ever be allowed to spend over a grand on headphones, so those ones aren't an option. When (if) I upgrade I'll probably get either 598s or 548s. I actually prefer a closed back design but it seems to be uncommon in midrange or higher headphones for some reason. Maybe I should take that as evidence that I am an unwashed heathen, but I'm not terribly bothered.

Tbh once you get to the level of the 598 you're probably not going to notice a difference getting anything more expensive. Have you looked at the ATH A700 family for closed headphones or did you want something higher end than even that?

    Do tell.

I've only ever come across a shitty-ass manga version of Romeo and Juliet. I was unimpressed.

Once you pass the level of the 598, every piece of the chain starts to matter. $1000 headphones sound amazing connected to $1000 amps and using nicely mastered music. I've had very good luck buying used gear from Ebay and Audiogon. I put in low ball bids on gear all of the time and sometimes win.

Beyerdynamic, Audeze, ATH, and others make closed headphones. I don't care for them; but Innerfidelity is fairly unbiased Closed headphone review.

Well, that's also part of why I'm not looking at the really high end stuff. I'm not going to see a lot of difference between 598s and 800s when they're plugged into my Macbook.

I haven't done a ton of extra research for my next set yet. I'm pretty sure if I told Magpie I wanted to spend another $300+ on headphones after just buying these ones they'd never find my body.

I bought my wife a car last fall. I'm at the very end of my "get out of jail, free" timeframe. I've been upgrading everything audio. These just arrived today, I've been putting in low-ball bids on them for over a year and finally won. These are the best headphones that I've ever heard.

Is it me or do headphones look less like headphones the more expensive they get...
