I've recently decided to give the world of comic-books a go.

The first thing I read was Batman by Scott Snyder. I borrowed them from my brother in-law.
I've read from 0 - 11. He also lent me Batman: The night of the owls but I just couldn't bring myself to read that book fully. I had lost interest by that point.

Since my adventurers with Batman had come to an end. I bought a subscription to Marvel Unlimited. It seemed cheaper this way and I had full access to Marvels library.

I truly wanted to find a Thor book to get into. I first tried Thor by J. Michael Stracznski. I've read Vol 1 and a bit of 2. It was sadly disappointing.

The first book I read and became obsessed with was The Runaways by Brian K. Vaughan. I finished the entire run if it (issue 1-18) in a few days.

I've read one to two issues of some other series. Need to read a bit more to decide if I fully like it or not. Those books are:

Thor: God of Thunder by Jason Aaron

    Black Widow by Nathan Edmondson

    Thanos Rising by Jason Aaron

Disney Kingdoms: Seekers of the Weird

    Storm by Greg Pak

    Rogue by Robert Rodi

    Firestar by Tom DeFalco

X-men Noir by Fred Van Lente. I don't think I'll continue with X-Men Noir though.

What ones have you read? What ones do you like? Recommendations?

    Hmmm.
As a comic geek you've opened a major flood gate here.
Now I will say I buy the trades instead of the books themselves, though I do have a collection that spans pretty much the entire Marvel and DC run for the 70s, I'm holding it for a friend.
My collection is made of of trades and graphic novels, the trades are usually six or so comic books in one edition.
I do want to say that Night of the Owls is a pretty good Batman story.
Also the Runaways is first rate.
I'm really looking forward to the upcoming female Avengers.
From what I've seen the female Thor has been great.

The one comic the hasn't come out in trade that I do recommend picking up without fail is the new Ms Marvel, Kamala Khan.
She is a Muslim teenager living in New Jersey and it is without a doubt one of the best comics going right now.

Some of the ones I have in trade.
    So in no particular order.

Saga by Brian Vaughan, Art by Fiona Staples

Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction, Art by Chip Zdarsky

The Authority created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch

    The Boys by Garth Ennis

Welcome to Tranquility by Gail Simone

    Astro City by Kurt Busick

    Green Arrow by Kevin Smith

    Incorruptible by Mike Wald

    Starman by James Robinson

Grimjack by John Ostrander and Timothy Truman

And a whole bunch of others but this post has got a bit long as it is

Do manga count? Cause if so, it would be a really, really long list. I've read literally hundreds of BL titles in the last three months alone  since a number of them are only six-volume tankobon, and then the story is over. I also read graphic novels. I'm not a big reader of regular comics.

I've never really gotten into comics, which is a bit weird, I think. As a teen, I sampled two issues of an AD&D comic and a couple Conan comics (I'm a fantasy nerd, primarily), but it didn't really take. Much later, I tried the Bone series, but I didn't get past the first few issues. I liked it, but, again, it just didn't take.

A bit later, I bought Watchmen. I enjoyed that, but probably not as enthusiastically as most people who like it. The problem, generally, is that I'm not that keen on superheroes.

I have, however, had a curiosity about comics that has never been satisfied. I just don't think it will be satisfied with the bulk of stuff published in the DC and Marvel universes.

I'm pretty sure I would like some of the stuff published under Vertigo, and likely a bunch of the stuff that Dark Horse, Dynamite, and Image do, but I haven't taken the leap.

I guess I just find the whole world of comics overwhelming even if I do eliminate DC/Marvel.

I don't know. Maybe I'll start with Gaiman's Sandman or something. (I also think I'd like Saga, which @redravin mentioned.)

I think this is part of why I've gotten sucked into manga. I really like slice of life type stuff.

Sandman would be a great place to start, not sure why I didn't put that on my list.
I have all the old ones in special hardback (it was a favorite of Jadzias).

Sure I see no reason why manga shouldn't count. The only manga I've been reading is Skip Beat.

A better question would be what comic I haven't read...at least up to 5 yrs ago.
But I most found myself liking the classic Marvel and Vertigo series.

Of late, I've been mostly enjoying the movie & TV translations.
Too many twists and divergences in the classic titles for my tastes these days in comics.

Personally, I tend to be mostly a Marvel man. I like the X-Men titles, Spider-Man, and Avengers, but I have sometimes read and enjoyed Doctor Strange, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, and Thor-- though I freely admit that the latter is highly variable, and is an acquired taste-- as well as one or two other titles from time to time. I do sometimes read DC, and mostly focus on the Batman-related titles, and the Green Latern and Green Arrow titles, but have also enjoyed Justice League and Wonder Woman from time to time.

I mostly love superheroes-- I almost never am interested in non-superhero comics, one reason that manga holds no interest for me. One sort of exception to the non-superhero rule is Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics, which are absolutely brilliant. If you like fantasy fiction and archetypes of folklore, it's a great place to start reading comics.

You guys should check out Fables and Jack of Fables from Vertigo.

Set in our world, but where the characters, objects and creatures from our Fables are real and live amongst us. Jack of Fables is a spin off. There have been a few specials as well.

You should try it, it's a Vertigo series, so it's a nice "real" adult twist on the classic characters...personality faults, soap-opera...what if "happily ever after" didn't happen.

One of my guilty pleasures is the show Once Upon a Time. I'm pretty sure I'd like it too.

This goes beyond OUT scenarios on prime-time, more like OUT mixed with the "realism" of Game of Thrones on HBO allows...less limits.
I love the Bigby character. Whaaoooo...

I'm currently reading the Avengers Johnathan Hickman storyline, it's leading to the Marvel universe reboot. I've only read the first 10 issues but I like what I'm reading so far
