Wasn't Rick Perry governor of Texas for a long time? Or do you just mean "openly gay or bisexual?"

I'm not sure if you're joking :p or not  , but I've never heard any stories or even rumors about Rick Perry's sexual preferences. When he ran for the republican nomination for POTUS in 2012 (exposed himself as an idiot, which some people already knew) chances are good any sexual secrets would've been exposed during that campaign.

I may place too much value in the security of the Oxford comma, but why play fast and loose with commas when there might be instances where you need to use it in such cases?

there is a certain amount of hardship that the human psyche requires in order to maintain stasis. make one's life too comfortable and it will be necessary for them to create problems where none existed.

About as likely as a Republican being Governor in Oregon. The greater Portland area has the much higher population density/voting power and that group in general is far from conservative.

The Willamette Valley in general has a denser population, and most of the cities skew liberal. Salem is a bit more mixed, but Eugene is not balanced out by more conservative Springfield. I think it's also telling that the Repubs here cannot get any kind of decent candidate to run against Peter DeFazio. Instead, they put up Arthur B. Robinson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Maybe if the party would get their shit together and put up a viable candidate, the not-insignificant portions of the state that are conservative (Central/Eastern Oregon, rural Oregon in general, parts of Linn and Marion Counties, Springfield, Douglas County, Jackson County) would actually elect a Republican governor. But don't hold your breath.

The Republicans were sub-standard across the board on the elections I saw. The Democrats didn't look any better to me. I keep getting back to 'Libertarian' when I look up what terms come close to describing my interests.

I'm relieved that Canada is now a viable three-party system. Knowing that a social democratic party (the NDP) is at least capable of becoming the Official Opposition is comforting to me and gives me faith in a balanced politics. (An actual left wing!) I have voted for the Liberal party (Canada's "Democrats") in the past, but they've positioned themselves in recent years as a party that no longer seems to consistently uphold my principles and values.

As an example: On the TFP Tilted Politics and Economics Forum if @Aceventura did not exist, it would be necessary for @redux, @Barak Guru, @rogue49, et al. to create him, as the resident advocatus diaboli, thus avoiding the "preaching to the (liberal) choir" posts being the only posts on that forum.:D

I'm going to take the bait... ;)

I don't think this is true for myself...first, I'm an GDI, I'm not one side or the other, I'm about what's pragmatic, I'm about what's productive. There is no category.
I don't answer Ace's posts because he's an anti-liberal, I answer his and others' posts because he's distorting reality...taking a view that makes the "other side" in a negative context no matter what.
However, if there were tree-hugging liberals or progressives doing the same, being unrealistic and overly biased, then I'd go after that too. (if you've ever seen our debate on the Death Penalty, then you've seen me hit that opposite wall too)

In the end, I'm a realist...I want what works, note what doesn't...as long as it is good for the people and the nation and the world. As long as it is productive.
    I'm justice oriented.
I don't have to make up villains...normal humans have their own unrealistic expectations and observations, I want only the truth.
It is the scientist in me.

This is my pointless announcement, I will shed a light where it is needed.
Always, even to my own harm...but not to specifically hurt others.
And many can't handle the truth.
    This is my nature.

    I am The Fool

I am my own villain...battling my ID.
I don't tilt at windmills, no illusions...but I do battle the worm in everyone.

No good deed goes unpunished, that's where my problems come from.

I would probably end up fighting with the liberals. Ace distracts me from that. ;)
