Notification Sounds

I'm curious what other people use for their notifications--if they have something special to them or something unique, or if they just use the defaults on their phones.

I use the Blazer trumpets. Here's a link to the whole song: http://www.thebaldfacedtruth.com/audio/OriginalTrumpets.mp3 and here is the notification-length one http://thebaldfacedtruth.com/audio/TrumpetsBFT.mp3 (@Speed_Gibson, you might want these).

I don't use a ringtone for calls most of the year, since my phone is mostly on silent all the time, but during football season I change it to the Oregon State fight song.

    What do you use?

My phone is always on silent. It is rarely anywhere further away than arm's reach, so I can hear the vibrate if I don't feel it.

Vibrate. I can annoy people all by myself without my phone's help.

My ringtone is Black Betty by Ram Jam.
It's just annoying enough to get my undivided attention.
My notification sound is like a mallet on PVC pipe.

I don't use notification sounds either.

My ringtone is one of the ones available on iPhone (can't remember what it's called).

However, I have the studio version of this set up as my alarm to ensure that every one of my days is heroic:

If I don't have it on vibrate, I have a guitar blues riff.
    Dah-dah-d-d-dun.

  8. I have Romeo Flynns' version of Baby Blue as my alarm and Dance the White Line as my ringtone. Otherwise, defaults.

This is kind of a funny topic for me. For the most part I couldn't care less what my notification sound is; so long as my phone does something to tell me that I have a call or text I don't especially care what. So that's pretty much always whatever the default is for the current version of Android. There is, however, one notable exception: my pager for work (which goes to my phone by way of email-to-SMS) absolutely must use the Merope notification tone. This one:

    http://android.playwap.mobi/load/Android%20Tones/Notifications/Merope.ogg

I set it to that many years ago because it was the most annoyingly attention-getting notification tone the phone shipped with. I now use an app that triggers only when I get a text from the email-to-SMS service and specifically plays this sound. It no longer ships with the default Android notification sounds, so for a while I had to go find it every time I would get a new phone or wipe my current one to factory defaults. Eventually I wised up and stuck it up on Google Drive.

Over the years I've developed a sort of conditioned response to that sound. It can get my attention in a way that nothing else can. It can even rouse me from a dead sleep, which is a miracle in and of itself. So my pager always has to make that sound, lest I accidentally ignore it.

And if you don't think it's annoying, try cranking the volume up when you play it. It gets my attention. Frequently everyone else's. I think Magpie has learned to tune it out successfully to the point where she doesn't actually hear it anymore.

I can't fathom having an email notification sound. My phone would never stop going off.

Can confirm--you do get an absurdly high number of emails. I don't envy you. My auntie works as a "traffic control person" for a major tech company; she tells the factories what they should be making. She also deals with an absurdly high number of emails. It boggles my mind.

I almost had Patsy's "message for you, sir" set for my incoming messages, too!
As it is, I have a Transformer sound effect as my incoming text notification, and Camelot! from Holy Grail is my ringtone.

My phone is almost always on vibrate. When it's not silenced, though, my ringtone is the communicator chitter from Star Trek: TNG, and my text signal is a lightsaber activation.

Because yes, I am that guy.

I have a few sounds on my phone and each signifies a different service.

I have a different sound for mail, gmail, text messages, phone, etc. They are all sounds from the iPhone supplied sounds except for text messages. For text messages I have the chime that the Toronto subway makes before the doors close.

I have the different sounds so I can know whether it's worth getting off my but to check the phone. During work hours, I will check an email over my gmail and when off work, vice versa. Text messages or WhatsApp will get my attention anytime. The ringtone is pretty quiet, I often miss hearingit butI don't get that many calls.

That said, I often keep it on silent and hear none of these sounds. I have spent the last two years trying to get over working for a company that wanted me to answer the phone/emails 24 hours a day. I am also trying to leave my phone behind on weekends.

Question: What do you do with your phone at night? Where do you charge it and do you leave the sound on?

I charge mine beside my bed, something I want to stop doing, and have all notifications turned off. I want to sleep not answer the phone. I am sure it can wait.

  15. My phone is my alarm clock, and charges on my nightstand every night. The guitar intro to Baby Blue can't help but shock one out of the deepest sleep.

I use Sleep as Android to track my sleep, so my phone is kind of tucked next to my pillow. The app keeps my screen dim and clicks into airplane mode. When I wake in the morning from the smart alarm, airplane mode turns off. It's plugged in and charging the whole time.

I have been using my phone as an alarm clock, but I find that my phone is the last thing I look at before sleeping and the first thing I reach for when I awake. I am not convinced that's a good thing.

I spend too much time with my phone. I think we need more time apart.
