I was pulling for the buckeyes, but I'm not here to rub it in. I imagine this must have felt for Oregon fans the way OSU fans felt in 2006, favored team losing in an upset to an urban meyer coached team. The ducks started strong, then just sort of fizzled... they looked like there were going to make a game of it at times. But a lot of the game was OSU just running the ball and controlling the clock, the way Florida did in 2006. Even the heisman-winning quarterback hoping to go out on top in Troy Smith that year parallels Mariota (although Mariota projects better as a pro).

Anyways, must have been a deflating night to be a duck fan, and OSU fans of all people can relate. Take solace in the fact that there are way better mountains in Oregon than Ohio. Go Bucks!!!

Yeah, the Buckeyes just dominated the line of scrimmage on offense. They opened huge holes for Elliott and gave good protection for Jones, who made almost all the right decisions. Jones is a brute physically too. On defense, their DEs and LBs set the edge like I've seen no other team do against Oregon this year. They prevented Mariota from scrambling for big chunks of yards, and they were always out there to make a solid tackle on any end run or screen pass. Tough loss for the Ducks, but OSU earned it.

How much of factor do you think it was that Oregon was missing the two receivers? Those early drops seemed like game-changers given how the momentum was all on Oregon's side in the first couple of series.

I think it was definitely a portion of the problem, as was having Ifo out at cornerback.

But it's hard to whine about who is injured when your opponent is on their 3rd QB...

Ohio State beat the living the shit out of Oregon. Period. Any excuses are offsetting.

The good news is Tom Herman is now officially (finally) the head football coach of the UH Cougars.

The question is how long will he stay before he moves on to another U, or even the NFL (depending on his success with the Cougs)?

At least with the new playoff format, Oregon can take some pride in being the legitimate #2. I think one of the worst things about the old BCS format was the way the runner-up got treated after the loss. Unless it was a down to the wire thriller (like the Texas-USC rose bowl with Vince Young) the pundits were usually out in force the next day talking about why the runner-up was a bad pick by the committee, and how one of the other bowl winners could have done better.

From a national perception standpoint (which is HUGE in college football), you were almost better off not being invited to the championship at all and ending the season on a win against a lesser team in one of the other major bowls. To make a parallel to the NFL, the Buffalo bills may have never won a superbowl in the 90's, but earning your way to the game four years in a row was an amazing feet in its own right. Not so in college under the BCS.

I'd personally like to see an 8 team playoff. That would have avoided the "does the Big-10 or Big-12 deserve the last spot" we endured at the end of the season. You let in the winners of each of the 5 major conferences, a win they earned on the field by beating out the rest of their conference. That leaves 3 "at-large" spots for a strong runner up from a major conference, or a top finisher out of a second-tier like the Mountain West or the MAC.

Cardale Jones just announced he is going back to Ohio State next year.

I think that is the right decision for him. I hope it pays off.

I agree. Good move for him.

It makes you wonder what kind of crazy offense they could run with Barrett, Jones, and Miller all together in the same backfield.
