Setback: pulled something in my side so I've skipped the past few days at the gym and it's starting to get to me mentally. I figured riding my bike would be doable with the injury, so I got in a 45 mile ride this afternoon.

I also bought some new running shoes to train for a half marathon in May. Because why not?

I really need to work out a new progression schedule. Right now I'm sorta... "meh lets add some weight to the working set" free styling.

I benched 310 for 10 last night. My lifelong (well the last few years of it) goal of 315 for 10 is in my sights...

I guess I can retire after that.

Yea I won't be benching 310 anytime soon

I'm stuck in "forever cutting" mode to keep sexy, I'm ok with that.

I did decide to start a 5*5 program. I've been wanting a power rack at home as it is. I don't have a training partner outside of my wife and thats only one day a week we go at the same time. Gym doesn't have enough power racks to really justify me benching in one on a busy day. I want those bars for safety so I can really push it without fear of crushing things.

I hear you on the safety. Benching is the scariest lift for me to go without a spot. 5*5 is probably one of the best overall programs to build strength, IMO

I evidently lost 5 pounds this week just by going back to work. I'm on my feet nearly eight hours a day. It's tough.

Ha, my work requires the physical fitness of a overweight 90 year old. You know what to do :p

    Okay, something has to change.

I'm still carrying around the extra twenty pounds I put on over my summer of discontent. It has a lot to do with missing maybe three months (crap, was it more?) of martial arts training this year, but I think the bigger factor is that I continue to eat like shit.

So two things, beginning this week:
    1. I'm adding a dumbbell routine for two of my off days: Tuesday and Thursday. This still leaves me with Sunday off completely. The routine will be short and sweet, maybe half an hour. This will work on some fundamentals: push vs. pull in my chest, back, and shoulders. Maybe a bit of legwork. The school closes for two weeks at the end of the year, so this will allow me to start a routine without getting overwhelmed by doing it all at once.
    2. Cutting out the crap, adding back the good stuff. I would probably shock some of you by what I stuff into my mouth on a daily basis. I'm impulsive and lazy, and it needs to stop. I'm going to make exceptions considering it's the holidays, but I want to at least start focusing on day-to-day nutrition. I want to load my fridge and pantry with wholesome goodness, and I want to start cooking daily again. I was impressed with what I was able to accomplish last year during a one-month fitness/nutrition challenge. I can't imagine how things would go if I kept to the same principles as a part of my lifestyle.
Anyway. Nothing crazy, just something to commit to as a healthy and highly active lifestyle.

Use it or lose it, right?

Okay, so I added a yoga routine instead. I think I'll get more out of it. Between my previous home programs of dumbbells and yoga, I easily appreciated the yoga more. It will help my martial arts too with added balance and flexibility.

I'm not sure if I've cut out much crap yet, but I've certainly added more good stuff. One step at a time.

Yoga can be great for Marshall arts. Core strength and flexibility are good things.

Squatted 430 for 5 reps. They were ugly, but I'm okay with that...
