Ugh, just looked at the floor map for Powell's. The erotica section is in the gold room. I think it's in the back corner behind the horror, but couldn't say for certain. Given that it's Portland, the poetry section in that store is likely nothing to sneeze at, so I wouldn't put the two toe-to-toe.

 

Frankly, I think it's a little of the "all of the above" scenario.

There are so many variables, there's no telling...but you can get a feel by trending, as with anything else.

It's a bit skewed because of the audience here in comparison to real life, but this would be true for any poll. Depends on where you ask and how you ask...and what the topic is about.

Porn is obviously much more accepted in public and popular culture than years before, otherwise you wouldn't get as many references to it.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "freak," but I don't think I have much sex freak going for me except for my voracious appetite. And that it started "inappropriately" young. My proclivities might have been considered freaky fifty years ago, but are pretty tame in 2014 2015.

I see nothing lost in this. Careful not to confuse subtlety with passivity. Some men can't begin handle an openly "aggressive" woman and certainly can't handle her with style and grace. Subtlety and passive terms allow for a graceful bow-out by either party. And our English language is absolutely riddled with double meanings, many of them sexual. 'Tis a disservice to the gods not to use them. Double meanings are plenty straight-forward to one who gets them.

 

Actually @Lindy - I agree with you fully.

I used the word, "freak" as an empowerment ...not in a negative context.
I don't consider any person who enjoys their sexuality or is open about it as freaky.
And in turn, I don't consider any person who prefers to not be as sexual or discrete about it as "repressed"

Why women?
Because it's a better barometer than men...men are expected to look at open, they boast and joke about it, it's obvious they are mass consumers of it. So it kind of silly to ask this to get a read on mores.
But this is still not true for women...or not as obvious. It is a better meter of how we've changed.

I'd love to come to the day when it's obvious for both sexes.
And the question doesn't have to be asked.

 

Meaning, that it is obvious and even advertised or boasted that men of all kinds, including gay men, are consuming adult material,
however it is not as obvious that women are doing so by comparison.

At least that was the original premise starting the thread and the question.
Now it is apparent from at least this response on this board that women are using it more.
