Food What are you drinking right now?

    Day drinking season comes to an end in a few weeks. I have to take advantage while I can, so now it's coffee with Canadian Mist and eggnog.

    I'm drinking the eggnog as long as I can get it.
    Kinda having an issue with the booze so I stopped for a while but it sounds really good.

    My "stopped for a while" has thankfully turned into over seven years of sobriety. I don't miss having 8+ drinks a day, but a nice dry sherry (chilled in the fridge--no ice cubes, in a schooner--not a cordial glass) or an imperial pint (20 fl oz) of a proper ale or even darker beer would be nice. But either would be a very bad idea, so no go.

    Congratulations.
    In my case it was clearly self medicating for the depression and doesn't mix well with the meds they put me on.
    Considering the side effects I'm getting from the meds I'm beginning to think the booze might be the better option.

    My drinking started off being fun (although in restrospect I most likely have an addictive personality), then slowly evolved into self medicating and a form of suicide (which was really stupid, all I managed to do make my shit memory even worse).

    Sorry, folks, I broke my promise not be a downer in this thread. Please forgive me for one more comment:

    The holidays can be depressing for some people. Alcohol isn't the answer.

    Sometimes people comment on the amount of sugar I put in coffee and tea. I like to point out to them the number of cups or glasses that I would need to drink in order to match the amount of sugar they're getting in their regular (sugared) soda.

    Congrats @Chris Noyb! My ex-husband was a practicing alcoholic who could not let go of it. I left him almost fifteen years ago. For him a drink wasn't enough and a quart was never too much.:(

    It helped me a lot that I discovered an AA offshoot, Alanon, a support group for family and friends of alcoholics. I still attend Alanon occasionally, a great place to share and talk openly about things like emotions and my "addiction of choice" (sex) and shed some of my own baggage.

    I haven't mentioned it on TFP, but my ex died drunk a couple of weeks ago. I feel such a mixture of relief and sadness, but that's for another thread.:(

    Not really. As indicated above, I have St-Remy Napoleon. I've tried Hennessy and Courvoisier, which can be quite good. Though if you're mixing it, you might want to just go with something like St-Remy, which is decent enough and affordable.

    Yesterday I had some coffee with almond milk, fresh grated Ceylon cinnamon and kaluha. We're out of kaluha and bourbon. So I think I'm just going to have coffee, almond milk and a little maple syrup. I have a turrible headache. Maybe from the wine last night.

    I just helped a friend clear out a condo (apartment) that belongs to his folks, there were open and sealed liquor bottles
    Old Grand dad unopened
    Canadian Club unopened (1955 "tax seal") I assume these are OK.
    Napoleon J. Dupeyrole(?) APPELLATION CONTRLEE open, with a cork that is broken off. (I'll have to work on this one)
    Cherry Heering open,.....Had a cork that broke when I tried to pull it, and when I got it open, I strained the liquor (through a coffee filter) and found that there was a lot of sediment in it ...OK to drink ?
